fitted wardrobes

I would definitely suggest going somewhere else. We had ours done by Sharps 10 years ago and have never been really satisfied : the rails were put in far too high to reach, the bedside cabinets and the chests of drawers are not actually fitted but are so heavy that they are difficult to move and the door to one of the wardrobes is now hanging off and has to be wedged closed. The colour (pale grey) is nice though !!!

I also would not recommend. We have had ours 9 years now and would have them removed and buy freestanding if I could cope with the upheaval (and the expense).

I thought that Sharps were very expensive for what they offered so I found a local company about12 years ago who did all that I wanted, removed the rubbish etc. and I was delighted. It also cost me a quarter of what Sharps were charging. It looks as good as the day that it was fitted.

Have you looked at IKEA? They do arrange an assembly service if DIY is not your bag and everything we have had from them - a lot- has been very serviceable, reasonably priced and of good design. You can order on-line so don't need to visit a store if you know what you want.

I loved our Ikea wardrobes! They have more door styles too now. You can change the fittings inside any time really and if you have a store not too far away you can fit the inside gradually as you decide what you want. The wooden drawers which go inside are worth every penny but I did not get on with the wire basket ones (which DH insisted on having!) as after a bit I found they slipped out of the runners. I changed some of our internal fittings after a while when I could see that a slightly different arrangement suited our needs better. They also do some fabric covered boxes/ drawers which are sold folded and some of these are in packs of two or three.
They wardrobes come in two heights and if you could fit the tallest in your room I would suggest you went for those.

My bedroom and study were fitted by Hammonds, would recommend them, clean and tidy workers and very polite.
All my other bedrooms have Hulsta furniture, the quality is exceptional but they did cost more than the original purchase price of the house

During my last redecoration I have bought something like this: sliding wardrobe doors aberdeen and in my opinion it was a great decision so I can trully recommend this kind of furnitures and this company

I moved house a lot in the past and always buy Ikea wardrobes, they cheap, easy to fit and look ok. But in my last house I decided to go with the fitted wardrobes because of the available space. It's hard to find Ikea wardrobe which fit perfectly into the space you have. My ceiling is almost 3m tall and you wouldn't be able to find a flat pack wardrobe which is so tall. So I used local fitted furniture company to do my fitted wardrobes and they did a very good job, they were very friendly and clean. I chose grey colour with white interior. My wardrobe look similar to this fitted wardrobe on picture 8 but grey colour.

I believe Sharps charge around double what a local wardrobe company charges. I'm very pleased with my fitted wardrobes from a local company. I investigated Ikea but their sizes did not seem to fit in with the size of the alcoves in my room. If you can work this out and have someone in the family to help you fit them, Ikea is half the price of a specialist company.

Hammonds are good but very expensive. A friend of ours had a range of fitted units in a bedroom used as a study, they used a local carpenter who worked to their design. They are very pleased with the result and with the cost compared to estimates they had from large companies such as Sharps.

We are about to move house and will be looking for fitted wardrobes so I thought of asking Sharps round for a quote but I'm going off that idea now! The builder we are buying from Bellway, uses Hammonds. Unfortunately we were too late to get ours fitted as part of the deal (we are getting some money instead though). I am seriously considering buying free standing wardrobes as we have moved many times. i think I will see if there is a local wardrobe fitter as well. Thank you for this discussion.

I didn’t realise how long I had had my Sharp’s fitted wardrobes until I noticed how old this thread is.
I hate them as much today as I did then.
Sadly my H developed Alzheimer’s and I couldn’t get anything done for years until he died and now I can’t do with the hassle.
I hope they have changed in the past years .
My friends used Hammond 18 mths ago and they are lovely.

When I moved here in 1992 Sharps prices were out of my reach. I found a local carpenter and he designed it as I wanted it and it has been as good as the day it was first built.

My house was 4 years old when I bought it. I had that fitted in the second double bedroom but my bedroom has the builder's idea of fitted- one long shelf and rail. I could not cope now starting again so I will live with it.

Yes, I have just noticed that.

Our bedroom already had Hammonds wardrobes and we wanted more of those on another wall, so we had to use Hammonds to match the style.

It cost a lot. The quality and workmanship were good, but the admins were poorly organised: wrong parts were delivered and to rectify mistakes they kept sending contractors that don't normally work for them.

I had to take so many days off work (14 in fact) to be at home that I ended up losing my job.

These days I would just get wardrobes from Ikea and have them shortened to fit exactly. Easily done. We did this with units in the lounge and it looks like they are fitted.

I have fitted wardrobes/ dressing tables etc in 3 bedrooms all fitted by Starplan. They are a family run company based here in NI but I understand they supply and fit in all of the UK.
Excellent service. Many years ago they also did my kitchen.
