Mouth ulcers

Switching to an SLS-free toothpaste might help reduce the frequency and severity of mouth ulcers for these individuals”.
I suffered from mouth ulcers a few years ago and changed my toothpaste. It was a long time ago and I can’t remember if it worked. I used to buy some Corlan tablets that you held over the ulcer till it melted but they because prescription only. Never found out what caused them. Maybe taking zinc could help?

Just remembered, I did have one recently and bought some mouth ulcer pastilles from Boots that helped…

I know how you feel because last year, I had ulcer after ulcer, and you’re right, one on the side of the tongue is horrible. I tried the chemist, who sold me some gel which helped a bit, but the trouble is, with the tongue being wet, the gel doesn’t stay in place for long. It’s just a case of waiting it out, I have found.

Use Kingfisher toothpaste which is SLS free. But buy the one with fluoride.

The mouth ulcer pastilles from Boots helped me as well, better than anything else I tried.

Mouth ulcers can also be a sign that you are rundown or stressed. I have had one or two, not very severe, ones on the roof of my mouth, in the last few weeks in the run up to our quite complicated house move.

I also agree with kittylester. Holland & Barrett are a good source of SLS-free toothpaste.

I suffer from some sort of post -viral fatigue - for donkeys years- which pops up periodically leaving me very tired and always with mouth ulcers. I’ve learned that 10 days of R&R will set me up again. I have also learned that I can’t fight it.

I find a solution of salt and water, used as a mouthwash, very helpful in clearing up mouth problems. 2 - 3tspns in a glass of water, used 2-4 times a day, heals most things.

I sometimes get them and found Orajel works best - from amazon

I use glycerin applied to the ulcer.

Mouth ulcers are one of the symptoms of coeliac disease. I used to get a lot before I was diagnosed. Do you have any other health concerns that may warrant being tested? Honestly, nothing worked, I tried every remedy on the market, even vile SLS free toothpaste and nothing worked. Slight relief from dabbing TCP on them.

Also celiac here and agree with Rosie. My daughter was allergic to milk as a baby and mouth ulcer was one of many symptoms she had.

One teaspoonful of salt dissolved in one cup of warm water is good for soothing and healing ulcers and gums following extraction.

I find Corsodyl mouthwash is the only thing that clears ulcers. It tastes horrible but is really effective. Not the daily wash, the original.

Agree that Corsodyl is good. Advised by dentist to put some on a cotton bud and hold on the ulcer. It anaesthetises it, do it a few times a day. He said not to use it as a mouthwash as it stains your teeth eventually.

Or use Kingfisher toothpaste, or similar, in the first place.

SLS is a problem in shampoo for me too. I use a Georganics toothpaste because of ulcers.

Mind you a lot were due to stress, tired and being rundown and that meant bigger changes were needed. I hope changing dental products help you. Much quicker than life changes.

Be very careful about doing this Corsodyl can cause a severe allergic reaction. I had a tooth out and my dentist advised me to rinse that side of my mouth with Corsodyl.

When I did my face that side swelled like a pumpkin and I dveloped a huge bruise all along my jaw bone. One acquaintance assumed on no basis at all that I was the victim of domestic violence, which really upset me. It took a week to completely subside. Never again

I used to suffer with mouth ulcers in the 1960’s.Ibwent to my GP and he told me to get vitamin C effervescent 1000mg tablets.Put one in water and it’s a refreshing drink ….andmore importantly,the ulcers will disappear! I’ve recommended them to loads of people over the years..
