Omicron took my sense of smell.

No happy stories from me 😥
I lost taste and smell in December 2019. Can’t think what it was because supposedly covid wasn’t around then. 🤷‍♀️
It’s never come back.

I’ve no experience, but I think your comments are harsh kitty. I think MS was merely stating what happened to her. I’m sure you already know that Gransnet isn’t always the place to get 100% support of an issue, as you would want.
Perhaps other GN’s will let you know of happier endings, but perhaps you need to address your health anxiety first. My friend is similar and it drives the rest of us crazy but she won’t seek advice and prefers to worry herself sick.

Yes , I know someone whose sense of smell came back ! It took ages , but she is ok now
She was advised to try and smell strong smells every day
I think she sniffed coffee , soap and other easily found things around the house

I'm recovering from Covid and totally lost my sense of smell for around 2 weeks, it now intermittently returns and goes again. I didn't particularly have symptoms of a cold but l am incredibly bunged up and much more deaf than usual. I also experienced a strange burning smell but that seems to have diminished, thought it had gone but came back last night. Hope things improve for you soon.

Mine came back a little after about 3 weeks, and improved gradually but continuously until it was back to normal over the next couple of months. I did take the advice about ‘smell training’ and would regularly sniff strong smelling things, often those I dislike like coffee and mustard. I can’t swear it helped, but it can’t have hurt.

I had Covid for the first time about a month ago. It wasn’t my sense of smell, more taste. Didn’t lose it, but most food seemed ‘different’. Coffee tasted awful.

Thankfully, seems more normal now.

Thank you for your replies. It's a bit of a dice roll, I guess, and no one can say if or when the sense will return. Sorry if I was rude to you @MerylStreep; I am very anxious about it and was looking for hopeful outcomes.

My daughter and I both lost our sense of smell after having covid.It gradually came back over a couple of months.

Thanks, Susan. I was so amazed to have it happen to me so dramatically when I'd heard Omicron didn't usually do it.

After Covid, things taste different for 3-4 weeks, rather than a loss of smell.
On the other hand, my Grandmother, long since gone, lost her sense of smell after a bad dose of flu and it never came back, so it might be the illness rather than the vaccine. Hope your sense of smell returns OP and thanks for the smell training idea.
