Dental xray plate injury

I would assume not!

I'm off to the dentist next week for a check-up and X-rays and not expecting to be injured. I do dislike the procedure as it makes me gag.

I’m sure that it shouldn’t, but my mouth gets a bit battered because it’s too small to accommodate the plate! I don’t know why they don’t have smaller sizes.

Me and my daughter have had 4 this year between us, no problems at all.

I always find them very uncomfortable and feel like they are cutting in but so far no problems.

They’re not the most comfortable things are they? It seems to be quite a recent thing, having to have an x ray at every other check up. For years, I had my six monthly checkup without having an x ray every other visit. Now, I’ve had two in the last three years, since the dentist changed hands (the original dentist retired and the business was taken over by My Dentist).

I told the dentist (locum as they all are at our practice now during and since the pandemic) I thought the plate was too big. Last time I had xrays done they used a smaller plate and I don't remember having problems before that though I've had dental xrays done for years.

I got MrB to take a photo of the injury and I rang the practice to let them know but had to leave a message. It is a chain and I know there is simply a shortage of dentists.

In every other respect my check-up today was perfect and the young dentist was very good and explained everything he was doing.

I was quite excited to have a dental appointment (!) as nothing has been available for over three years, which felt decidedly weird after going every six months throughout my life from childhood onwards. I only got this one because I rang about some twinges that I was worried about. Turns out I do need some treatment where I suspected there might be a need but that's for another day.

I'm now wondering (jokingly) if my mouth has shrunk!

there must be smaller plates or holders; what do they use for children .

Last week I had every tooth in my head X-rayed which was an uncomfortable experience but it didn’t and shouldn’t damage the palate.

Ours has a machine you stand in and a sort of robot whirs quietly around you, no plate.

My dentist uses digital imaging which doesn't use a plate - it's fed straight into a computer which brings the image up on screen. Takes no time at all. I've had the same procedure Jaxjacky, it's sort of a Cat scan in the round! Hope your injury heals soon Baggs

I’ve had one of these revolving X-rays a couple of times - just wish it was every time an X-ray was required. The plates used are certainly gag inducing but I try to think of other things and it doesn’t take too long.

Sorry to hear of your cut. I hope it heals soon. Perhaps salt water rinses might help.

Poor dental skills .

He or she should be able to judge the size of your mouth .

Relieve with Bonjela or suck cloves and complain to him or her .

And get a discount !

I think it might have been newly qualified (so low experience) dental skills, Esmay, rather than simply "poor". I've left a message with the practice and I have a photograph of the injury to show them.

I won't let any dentist in future take xrays done in that way without first describing what happened and, if necessary, showing them the photo.

I hope the young man gets feedback on this and learns. I think he will. He didn't strike me as an arrogant tw*t.

PS it's less sore this morning. Thought it was going to feel quite bruised but it doesn't.

The more x rays they do the more money they get, simple. That applies to NHS as well as private.
