On the positive side earnshaw if he has PC it has now been found and can be treated. That is so much more optimistic than those men who have not requested the simple PSA blood test, have PC but do not know it.
Keep concentrating on practicalities. Research the subject so that you can make treatment decisions together and remain calm. Your husband needs you to be strong.

Please try not to worry. My dh had very high psa readings but had a small op and is fine.

Earnshaw I know is easier said than done, but please try not to worry as a high PSA doesn’t necessarily mean cancer.

It can sometimes be high due to infection so fingers xx'd for you both. My OH has had the op and is well.

My husband was only 57 when psa levels started to rise. After all the tests and scans it was cancer but luckily caught early it hadn’t gone anywhere else. He had his prostate removed and no evidence of cancer reoccurring. However since then he has had bowel cancer surgery which then went to his liver 3yrs later which required partial liver removal and 3yrs later again has now spread to lungs. We are “waiting and seeing” currently IF anything can be done. His first cancer was 13yrs ago so don’t panic too much until testing is done. Best wishes.

Thank you for starting this thread. My DH has just had notification that his PSA level is high, and will be recommended to a specialist. He is of course very worried.

I've tried to tell him not to worry until we know more, but of course one cannot turn off the mind.

As I mentioned on the other thread, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014. He had several scans, 37 consecutive rounds of radiotherapy. He's fine now (touch wood). If it helps, his consultant said that a man can have very high PSA levels and not have cancer. Good luck to you both.

My stepfather had prostate cancer 20 years ago and after his hospital treatments he is fine and dandy. His birthday is today - he’s 88y.

Good luck too for your husband. I’ve heard it’s more whether there are worrying symptoms more than the level of the PSA test.

My OH had prostate cancer 10 years ago. He is fine. Treatments are good and improving constantly, he had a prostatectomy. We were so worried at first, but it’s very common and usually one of the easier cancers to deal with.

Many men will live long and active lives, not realising that they have it, and without it shortening their life.

I had very high psa ,it turned out it was a very enlarged prostate, which is very common. I had an operation called HOLEP to hollow out ghe prostate, I'm fine now, enlarged prostate is very common

Mr. S. had prostate problems for years earnshaw resulting in him having to have a catheta for almost 2 years.

His PSA count has fluctuated over 11 years of monitoring and thank God has never had any evidence of cancer. It is not a guaranteed indication that cancer may be present. I totally understand how worrying this is for you, but please try not to worry until further tests have been carried out and the results known .
