Sanitising

You can wash fruit and veg in diluted Milton and then rinse them. There's no taste left behind. It's very gentle as we used to use it to sterilise baby equipment. I remember diluted Milton was recommended about 10 years ago when there was a problem with E.Coli on salad vegetables in the UK.

Surely an antiseptic is a sanitiser?

Thank you, I've just unearthed this. Unfortunately it's open and out of date but in the absence of anything else it will do.

I seem to recall being told that an antibacterial product kills bacteria but not viruses. I understand viruses need alcohol (me too).

Can we not 'edit' on this site? I suggested bleach in another group but was told that although it may kill 99.9% of germs - but doesn't kill even 1% of visuses.

So the short answer is yes. Bleach works.

Thanks Notspaghetti - there's a lot of misinformation flying about - I mean, in the beginning (sounds like the Bible) we were told it was like flu only milder! Next minute its killing us in thousands.

Killing effect of disinfectants depends on the virus. Coronaviruses are easy killed by chlorine based bleaches but also by ordinary detergents. Some viruses are more hardy. Labels on household products usually make claims for their killing effect on bacteria as it’s much harder to test them on viruses.

Milton and bleach are both chlorine based.

I don't think we were ever told that, were we? "Like flu", yes, but no one mentioned "milder". They should have said "like the plague"

It certainly is, just like the plague. I do have it in my head that we were told it was a milder form - but no matter, it isn't.
