Home eye tests

Maybelle, not had any experience of home eye tests, but my husband has had home audiology tests whilst housebound. I hope this may be of use to you in the future.

My dh had home eye test when he was just too poorly to get out the house(in fact they came when and ambulance was due one day to take him into hospital) they did the eye test and when they rang that his glasses were ready and I said sorry he was in the hospital, they even went up to the hospital to fit them and make sure all ok.
Unfortunately they never really helped as dh eyesight was deteriorating too much. But yes they were fine with him and didn't push him into buying any fancy glasses or anything.

OH had a Home Visit from Specsavers and they came back and fitted the glasses , it was a new service in our area . We got him two pair as they got lost down the side of the bed and bent being the reason for new glasses , so got spares .
I had a recent visit to the shop for my new glasses and rounded up as many of our old specs to leave back for charity , including his fairly new glasses

Have been reading posts on gransnet for a while and decided to join as this post spurred me to action. My Mum used the outside clinic some time ago. She was very deaf but the chap who came was really patient with her, the eye test was very thorough,a good range of glasses to choose from. They were delivered and fitted without any problems and he even came back when the frames needed adjusting. Hope this helps.

My mum used Specsavers home service and they were very helpful. Her glasses didn't fit properly at first and they did follow up visits until she was happy with them.

My mum used home service when she lived with me. They diagnosed AMD and arranged emergency appointment at the eye hospital. Too late for one eye but saved the sight in her other one.

My mum used the Outside clinic and it was very expensive.

Our only charge was for the glasses , which cost the same as at the shop

I had an eye test with the Outside clinic last year, will definitely have the next test with them.

There are some services available which come home for eye checkup at your convenience such as specsavares and eyeque. All opticians are qualified and experienced.Hope this helps you.

We’ve had a Specsavers leaflet through the door recently and it advertises home visits. Give your local branch a ring for more info?

Thank you all for your help. I didn't realise that Specsavers also did this home visit service. As we previously used them i phoned up this morning and have arranged a home appointment for DH.
As always lots of supportive information from this forum.
