Nosebleeds

Does it say anything about the possibility of nosebleeds on the info in the statins packet?

Hello Lucky I googled side effects of statins and it mentions nosebleeds. I've been on them for about 3 months and have been fine up until about 3 weeks ago when I had my first nosebleed. I know it is probably logical that it is
the statins, but I am a catastrophiser who always thinks the worst!

As nosebleeds are unusual for you (and I presume you have not started picking your nose!) I would phone your GP practice and let them know.

It is quite sad that we are now so concerned about NOT visiting the GP, that we are left worrying about things when a quick phone call or visit might be beneficial.

I agree that you would do best just to check it out. Good luck with it.

I agree that it might be best just to have a chat with the doctor to check it out - it might be related to the statins but equally might be nothing. Have you had a cold recently? I've suffered with horrendous nose bleeds all my life and it does look a lot. I'm on blood thinners now and terrified of having one as the slightest cut bleeds for ages

Nosebleeds are quite normal as we get older and especially when the heating is on a lot because it dries the nose which is just like all the other parts of our body which dry out as we age.

However, if they become frequent or long maybe you should talk to your GP.

I used to have regular nosebleeds whenever I was ill, regardless of whether it affected the nose or not.

Then 10 years ago I had a bad respiratory infection, had 11 nosebleeds in one morning and I haven't had one since. No idea why.

The dreaded lurgy that started in November (and might just about have gone!) seems to have resulted in more frequent nosebleeds than usual for me. I still have to blow my nose fairly often and quite that often results in a nose bleed.

And, I'm fed up!!

KatyK- Have you had your blood pressure checked recently- if it is high the fine blood vessels in the nose can burst and bleed. However, nose bleeds due to high BP don’t usually stop as quickly as yours do but still worth a check.

I remember my dad sitting over a bowl with his nose dripping blood for ages when I was a child. Must be something that runs in our family.

Thanks again all. Sorry some of you are suffering. I feel like a wimp! I've made an appointment with my GP just to get it checked out. Sazz Yes I do have problems with my blood pressure. When I am stressed, it shoots up off the scale. My GP is aware of this and has me on her radar. I am on meds.

I used to get regular nosebleeds when a teenager and into my 20s. I started donating blood at 18 and I noticed that I would often get nosebleeds when I hadn’t donated for a while, but after giving blood wouldn’t get another nosebleed for a few months. Probably coincidence but I used to think I had too much blood and needed to get rid of a bit!

KatyK - good idea to get checked by GP if you’ve never had nosebleeds till recently.

Just to thank those again who replied. I had a really bad nosebleed on Saturday (well it seemed so to me, not having much experience of them). DH rang 111, by which time it had stopped. The operator went through a check list and then eventually said if I had another one within 24 hours to ring back. Went to GP yesterday, she seemed totally unconcerned, examined my nose, gave me a prescription for some ointment and more or less said there's nothing she can do but go to A&E if I have a really bad one. I asked what she called a bad one and she said 'oh you'll know'. Very comforting! I am now scared to go out. Am I over-reacting?
