Mouth infection

I'm so sorry to hear that. Are there local family or friends who could advise on an alternative dentist? At the very least a second opinion is needed or even a referral to a dental hospital. It sounds as if there has been a lack of professional care, but I'm no expert. I am sure there will be others with more informed opinion and advice along soon to help. Wishing you well.

I would definately put up a marker with regard to that dentist.

The same won't happen again as this time you have learned through painful experience that you will not take what the dentist says needs doing as gospel - you can also request a detailed list of the treatment proposed.

Definitely put a complaint in. Googling will come up with where to complain to. Depends on whether private or NHS dentist.

How awful for you. There seems to be incompetence here, do you know someone who could recommend a good dentist?

There is Corsedyl gel, which my dentist gave me when I had an abscess. It was great and numbed the area as well as healing. I think you may have to get a prescription for it, so you will need to find a dentist.

I hope it all heals up soon.

My Mum had this problem and the dentist wanted her to pay for 4 teeth removed and implants costing £400 each. She got a tooth removed and felt shaky and ill and the dentist let her go home on the bus. She is 81. She got a new dentist and did not need half the work done and is so much more gentle and not pushy so worth moving to someone new.

If you can find a number for your local Health Watch you could ring them for advice Definitely seek a second opinion.

I too use Cordosyl as I am having some treatment at present, but I also use regular warm salt water as a mouth wash, it may be an old remedy but it works.

Thank you all. I am doing just what you recommend Nancate and it is at least staying the same. The thought of going through all that again is too much at present.

I went private to avoid a demon dentist who mentioned a root canal. No way was he doing that to me with his rough manner. Since I have been so happy and find it worth every penny. My teeth have never been better.

I have such awful memories of the terror brought on by Mr Moss the demon dentist I went to in the 50s. Smacked me when I complained as he drilled everything in sight with that shaky, rattle drill.

You owe it to yourself to have some peace of mind at the dentist.

You don't always have to go private though, I changed from a Myra Hindley NHS dentist who wanted to do everything bar take my head off to a beautifully gentle kind NHS dentist who I now have confidence in and needless to say she hasn't mentioned any of the crowns, root canals etc that the first one said I needed

Good post Bluebelle! It isn't true that Private = good, NHS = bad. Some Area Health Authorities are not funding Adult NHS contracts anymore.
