I personally, will be using Gransnet Cafe for Politics from now on.
Anything anyone wants to discuss here?
Russian pneumonic plague?
Anything else?
How do people who dont normally vote Labour think Andy Burnham is doing generally?
Personally, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt for now.
Waiting to see how he does in a crisis. Such as Iran, Russia, health stuff, Country financial problems, etc.

(88 Posts)Anything else from the general board?
No arguments and non- judgemental.
As an owner of a SME I can honestly say that this Labour cohort has done absolutely nothing for me, other than increase running costs across the board.
A decision was made last week that if an employee leaves, they will not be immediately replaced as normal. Instead it will be decided if it’s necessary after a month or so being a man/woman down.
We closed one of our businesses, partly because we no longer wanted to employ someone.
It was all too diffcult and expensive, sadly.
Though this was in Sir Kier Starmer times.
The other business we have currently, it is fortunate that we can increase prices, and people can easily understand why we need to do that.

That's really why my husband wouldn't be tempted to vote for Labour again, he did vote for Tony Blair, at the time be felt that the then Tories had run their course. In his working life he ran a small business. Obviously retired now, but much of his empathy is for those who are still in that position. His common gripe, Labour never appear to have anyone in the Cabinet who has business experience or appear to listen to how business is being stifled. Lets face it RR's handling of the economy has been shite. Particularly egregious to him is the burgeoning benefits budget and how that's being dished out. Two members of our family have ADHD, my son is one, un diagnosed has always worked and would be horrified not to. His granddaughter who is actually a qualified barrister, has had it diagnosed and again has been able to achieve that level of success in spite of this condition which is quite common from everything we know now. However, will have to see what's coming down the line in the next budget, some of these hand outs definitely need to be reassessed they're unsustainable. Like everyone else we don't want those who really need state help to lose it. On the whole he quite likes Burnham as opposed to Starmer, but not enough to vote Labour. He's been relating back to me what Jeremy Clarkson has been saying at the Tory conference as to running a business under this administration which he tells me resonates. I haven't listened to it. My friend's daughter is a hairdresser with her own business employing around half a dozen, she has told her mother, if I get any more costs loaded on, I'll consider shutting up shop literally and just operate on my own, without premises as a single person enterprise.
Personally, I don't know who I'll vote for really. It won't be either of the two extremes, Reform or The Greens. I don't think Labour garner a lot of votes in my constituency. We've got a Lib Dem MP right now. I'm not keen on them. When my mother was alive she either voted for her Lib Dem MP mainly because she thought he was an excellent constituency MP or The Greens. Time has moved on since 2008 and I don't think she'd be too impressed with either now, particularly not the The Greens.
We run a small business, 6 f/t employees.
The NI increase made no difference to us (% increase offset by increase in small business allowance at same time).
Our apprentice was more expensive than they would otherwise have been, but they get through so much work & are so reliable that we pay them over Reeves' minimum because worth it & don't want them poached.
Books still balance & we make a living & invest in new assets if they add value to our service.

Plus burgeoning welfare, debt, immigration and lack of defence provision.
Yes.
He is not there on immigration, as far as I am concerned.
Which is a big issue, and getting bigger almost by the day.
Was it Gosport that got locked in?
There wasnt much debate about that, from what I saw.
And yes, those other issues.
If the plague does happen big time, is he the man for the job?
fancythat

The boats are not arriving by the day. Fact.
Numbers are dropping. Fact.

Re the plague. Who, in your opinion would be the man for the job?
I think some people want none at all arriving in that way.
And the way Denmark handles things when they arrive[if they havent been stopped], may suit a lot of people.
So AB is not there on immigration. As far as is seen to date. By a long long way.
Not even close.
Plague - far too early to tell.
Andy Burnham may do fine? If it comes to it?
TBH I'm more impressed with AB than I thought but staggered that he wants to reintroduce alcohol consumption at football matches.
There does appear to be a feeling of hope that was sadly lacking under KS or is that just me
.
This is my first time on the Cafe forum and I see this is the second thread for 'Non Spiky Politics'. Great idea and to quote
Arny I'll be back

I really enjoy these non spiky politics threads.
As for who to vote for, I do like Kemi and feel she has some good ideas coming through.
I havent made my mind up on Kemi really.
I think I will wait until nearer an election of some sort, to properly look into things.
I think she is growing into the job?
There does appear to be a feeling of hope that was sadly lacking under KS or is that just me hmm.
I agree.
I like some things that have been abolished, that Sir Kier was proposing.
Such as no juries and ID cards.
[I will be disappearing for a few days from the forum, as of sometime tomorrow].
Arny I'll be back smile.!!
I’m definitely warming to Kemi, she is saying all the right things but then don’t all politicians do that and when they get into Power, they start with the excuses of why they actually can’t?
The big one is “nobody will pay inheritance tax on family Home under conservatives..
And so much more…..if only….🥹
So, a very non spiky polite question.
This particular thread appears to only be for those not supporting Labour?
In which case I’ll leave you all to your own thoughts and in peace

WW2 😂🤣😂🤣🙂🙂
Hmmmm. When I read the title of this thread my immediate thought was and remains that politics is an inherently spiky area!
In a non spiky way Im supporting Burnham until I see the budget changes, maybe I will change that maybe not.
As for Badenoch, no, not my choice of PM and Im not expecting her to get elected
Burnham is now coming to the end of his honeymoon period.
Think he may be feeling more than a tad uncomfortable about his time as Mayor of Greater Manchester.
Re his relationship with Sheikh Mansour and his multi billion pound investment in the of regeneration of East Manchester.
This is where all the devolution stuff came from.
Should be interesting. Have to wait and see.
Non spiky politics? Sounds like something Buddhists would go for.
Peace Man.

And if you dare to the report button is at the ready.
The real politics thread is for those of us ( left or right) who have a broad knowledge of the subject.
We respect a properly thought out argument.
But admittedly we don’t suffer fools gladly. You have to know your onions when debating on The Real Politics thread, otherwise it goes in Chat.
I also post on the 'News & Politics' forum which I enjoy and look forward to enjoying posting here too.
I was also against reducing the number of jury trials fancythat.
