Hello!

<pokes head over political threads parapet to assess whether or not it's safe to tie up the last of the (apolitical) bunting>...

in preparation for....

..our very own Gransnet Great Get Together! This Sunday 18th June around midday we will be taking part in the nationwide celebrations, in honour of the late Jo Cox and her belief that we have #MoreInCommon.

We would like to invite you all to bring your own Pimms or tipple of choice and a plate of virtual goodies and come join the fun. If you’re up to baking, we’ve got some tasty recipe ideas…

We’ll be giving away spot PRIZES and sharing silly gifs. We invite you all to share a joke, a funny or heartwarming story or just let us know what you’re up to.

If you prefer to meet up with people nearby in real life there’s plenty happening nationwide. You can check out a local Great Get Together here. Or check out your Gransnet Local page to see if anything’s been organised by a local editor.

There’s been so much sadness in recent weeks and this is the perfect opportunity to show our support for each other and our communities. We hope to see you here on Sunday - bunting lovers or not. grin

Whooppee, thanks for the invite! I'll make my GF chocolate sponge with nutella buttercream filling and topping. Would you like the customary crumbled up flake on top too? grin

Lara is it an aberration to have political threads on GN?

Very patronising - you wouldn't have dared to post that on Mumsnet.

But I thought it was funny Lara. I know, Riverwalk, says more about me than you!

We're all different Kitty

I just don't find it amusing that there are active political threads on GN, given the times we're in.

Grandmothers are more than lemon drizzle cake.

Twitter was awash with "Is it safe to come out yet, or is everyone still a politician?" memes and they were all very funny.

I'll come to the party!

I make a rather good lemon drizzle cake, if I do say so myself! It's so tangy that it makes your mouth go like a cat's bum! ? Shall I bring it, or would something sweeter be better?

It's DH's birthday today, and with Fathers Day on Sunday, we are going to DD for lunch, hooray, but I would like to pop in and see the jollifications. Coffee and Walnut cake OK?

Sounds like fun! Ignore the pursed-mouthers for an hour or two and live it up.

Oh, that's a good point Elegran, maybe my rather tangy lemon drizzle cake would only exacerbate matters!

Maybe syrupy-sweet things for those who need them and lemon drizzle cake for others?

I'm far from a 'pursed-mouther' Elegran just surprised that GNHQ should poke fun at political threads.
