If you have only recently moved they may be more stressed. However you can try your best to keep them. I do not waste any water, and especially now of course. However "grey" water is fine for plants, so any rinsing water, drops left in kettles etc etc I save in a bucket to water the precious plants. The really important plants get that. I do not use a lot of washing up liquid with the washing up, so that less important plants are given that ,if not too greasy or dirty. The important thing is NOT to give a little drop of water every day. Far better to give plants a good soak once a week or possibly twice a week, and preferably in the evening or early morning. That way you encourage them to put their roots down and not come up for water, and give them a chance.
Grass is tough and however baked it looks it will eventually come back, but I just concentrate what water I have onto a few precious plants and the rest has to take its chances. If you are not lucky and they dont survive, I wouldnt attempt to plant anything in its place while we are having this hot weather. The only good thing at the moment is you can have the chance to dig up the wretched weeds that somehow seem to survive whatever the weather throws at it. Good luck.
