Mandoline for finely sliced veg

Hallo
Does anyone use a mandoline to finely slice vegetables? I have a friend whose daughter will only eat salad if everything is sliced up this way and it takes her an age to do them with a knife, so I was thinking of recommending one of these to her but know nothing about them.
Any advice would be most welcome.

Yes I've a good one I got from Lakeland. I have been known to try to amputate my fingertip with it. They can be lethal.

I bought my son a mandoline for his birthday one year. He makes good use of it and I have never found a bit of finger in a salad, but then he is a qualified chef. I think I got that one from Lakeland. Cheaper from Amazon. I find that the slicing discs on my Magimix do a good job.

I bought one from a charity shop 5 yrs ago-a 'Borner' made in W.Germany.
I use frequently.Agree with Galen that extreme care is needed to avoid slicing fingers.

I have a wonderful Oxo Goodgrips one which DD gave us - but I am afraid I usually use the Magimix. Excellent devices though.

I use a zyzzlis [sp] which comes with five blade thingies and is scarily good. grin

THANKS so much for your recommendations and tips, especially from Galen. I will pass them on and check out some prices. Perhaps I should buy some Band Aid as well, as she has been known to partake of a drop or two when she is cooking.
