Just a thought

I am getting a bit spooked by all this talk about coffins, mortuaries and funerals. Nothing personal over the hill. I suppose the Queen would just have a quiet funeral like everyone else or wait for happier times!!!!!!

I'm hoping that the RF, members of parliament and the experts supporting the governments attempts to manage this unprecedented crisis , all stay safe and those afflicted recover well.

I reckon they'd have a whacking memorial service for her when this is all over. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen. Yes I know that will surprise a lot of you as I'm a republican but I can see her value to other people and tbh it would make the crisis even worse for many.

She & Prince Philip are living together again. Nice.

I can imagine that this potential scenario will be causing a great deal of trouble for Royal Advisers who have to have a plan in place.

I did read that a 101 year old pulled through, so there's hope yet.

A case of ‘cross that bridge’ etc.

I'm sure they'd embalm her and store her until we can all have the State Funeral.

Not so my dear old friend, a long-serving member of a community group in which she was greatly loved.

WE can't go to her funeral, nor can her family.
ONE person is allowed and that will be the daughter with whom she lived.
Heartbreaking.

Funerals aren't possible when people are isolating, anyway. Unaccompanied cremations, then planned later memorial services have replaced them for now.

Wars will never stop, BradfordLass. Too much money tied up in them. Profits must be made regardless.

Sorry to the folk who don't like the topic of funerals etc but I personally told DH and kids I don't want a standard funeral. My body can go for cremation, then whenever the family felt ready a get together can be arranged to remember me. DH wants the same.

This was bought on by two funerals we attended in 2018. The first was a neighbour and it was conducted by the Masons. There was so many people there we had to stand for 1.5 hours...not on. The second was for my SIL and you wait round the house making small talk then the service which was nice then stand about far too long looking at the flowers while everyone is upset.

I don't want that for my family and friends let them get together in my name sometime later when it's sunk in and everyone is coming to terms with it.

overthehill, that's how you feel but you won't be here. Its my belief that funerals are for the loved one's left behind.

Iam64 I am speaking as a loved one left behind in the case of my SIL. There is a trend now for these type of funerals and I for one embrace it.

My ex MIL died last week and my daughter has had to arrange everything (exH is useless). MIL had made all the arrangements for her funeral right down to what to serve afterwards but that is all gone. Now its just a cremation then later there will be a service for friends and family and scattering of the ashes.

Sorry to read that HAZBEEN. This week is the anniversary the death of a much loved family member. We've all been talking by phone and acknowledging how lucky we feel to have been able to visit over his final weeks in hospital. To gather together for his funeral and meet later to share food, love and memories. Everyone of us talking about how much more difficult it will be now the rituals so many of us find comfort in are gone.
