Good Morning Sunday 18th October 2026
(42 Posts)Good morning from Bristol. The mornings gave suddenly turned very chilly - it’s 5C outside, with a promised maximum of only 13C.
Yesterday went well. I was packed and ready early as I hate making people wait…. DD hasn’t inherited her parents’ need to be on time; everything is done at the eleventh hour…. We left the flat clean, tidy, beds stripped, etc., as requested. An easy journey home, with no hitches, though it seemed odd that so many cars were going the same direction as us. Doesn’t the traffic normally go to the West Country at weekends and holidays?
Safely delivered home, I set about unpacking and sorting myself out. I thawed a meal for dinner and had an early night - not before changing my summer weight duvet for a heavier one. Put the heating on too!
Today, I have church in the morning. One church lady is trying to offload all her extra produce on me; apart from not liking her, I’m very busy atm and really don’t need extra work. Having said that,I gave in at the offer of quinces,; I love the scent of the fruit and the jelly it produces.
In the afternoon, I need to make a fruitcake, allowing for maturing time for the FAB cafe’s next live concert, finish my Spanish homework (about Garcia Lorca), do some washing to be hung out, make a casserole so I only need to reheat it tomorrow…
May today bring only blessings. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🌹🦩
Good morning from Sheffield
I’ve not posted for a few days. I’ve been so busy.
Hubby had his carpal tunnel surgery on Wednesday. It went very well. The hand centre was fantastic. They were so kind and very efficient.
As he can’t do much I’ve been working and looking after him. I’m pacing myself and not doing anything that’s not necessary. Dusting has gone out of the window.
He’s glad the pain has gone away, just the wound is a bit sore.
We went for a lovely walk yesterday. It was good to get some fresh air. I will be sorting out laundry today and resting, ready for the week ahead
Take care everyone
Good morning from a dark and chilly corner of La Sarthe.
Despite planning to stay indoors for fear of encountering demonstrations yesterday, DH had to go out as we needed cat food. I’m enjoying a dry rosé, Grenache, which he discovered is available in 5litre boxes so we have one to take back to Torbay. But will it fit in my fridge❓❗️
A blessed Sunday to you all. 🦩🥰✝️💐🦩
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is currently 6 degrees (“but feels like 2”). We are promised sunshine later.
I’m glad your DH’s surgery went well, Melanie.
Yesterday was a rather sedentary day but it was very good to be able to share it with my friend of many years who I don’t see all that often these days. There has to be much poring over calendars! We caught up on family news, generally put the world to rights and laughed a lot. DS FaceTimed in the evening from a B&B in the Lake District where they were having a long weekend.
Today I will have a quiet day with paperwork to attend to, and a walk featured at some point, but in the meantime I am not in a hurry to leave my bed!
Have the best day you can, folks.
Good morning from s somerset, we are expecting a bright sunny day but it is rather cool, I`ll have to find my draught excluders, it is time
My trip to the allotment yesterday was just lovely and I brought some young strawberry plants home and did a lot of weeding but that was very easy, the soil was crumbly and dry. I had 6 ever-bearers at home towards the end of summer and they were still producing fruit yesterday. I will be adding to them now the parsnip bed is cleared
My housecoat is finished and of course I was dreading the buttonholes, not sure if they would work on this fabric, all was good until the very last buttonhole, I unpicked it four times until I worked out that the curved binding at the top was causing the problem on the automatic sensor. Unpicking buttonholes on that double gauze fabric was not easy and I definitely did not want a hole. Manual buttonhole worked and lesson learned
Anyway, it is warm cosy and very comfortable, cotton double gauze with a warm filling, like a sandwich. The pattern was Salis by Itch to stitch and I simply elongated the bottom and tapered out a bit. I will be making a Salis jacket before too long
I have a lot of tidying to do today and my sewing room is very bad as was the untidy kitchen before I went to bed. I`ll be doing those first today and I need some PJs, I was feeling cool in bed last night. I will start to make some later today in flannel cotton, I bought the fabric last week, it is beautiful quality
Thankfully I have food made for the main meal for three days and I made the parkin, which is maturing out of sight
Good morning from south Glos where it’s dry and chilly but sunshine later so I’ll get the washing dried outside.
Yesterday I walked bigger dog, we wandered around the lanes and she enjoyed sniffing everything while I enjoyed the sunshine and observing the wonderful autumn hues and all the hips and haws as well as huge amounts of Old Man’s Beard in the hedgerows. There were lots of fallen chestnut cases but few conkers, piles of beech masts everywhere and quite a lot of hazelnuts. A walnut tree on the estate has been shedding walnuts too, I have picked up a few.
There was a beautiful red kite drifting overhead, how I love that languid way they float across the sky. We also have buzzards here, one came very low overhead during our afternoon dog walk.
DH finished hedge/bush cutting yesterday, it looks good. He has an MRI this morning so I’m dog walking; it’s lovely to be outside and able again.
The forecast is for rain next week, we so badly need it, so I will dig out better boots for walking and my wellies in anticipation. I need to get back to walking every day, I so miss it.
I too am always ready early grandMattie unlike DH who is deplorably late for just about everything, it drives me mad because I think it’s very bad manners. I’m glad you had a nice time away, I hope to book somewhere for a night or two, just me because DH doesn’t want to go anywhere.
Have a lovely day if you can 🌹
Good morning from a dark mid-Wales. Currently 3 degrees with sun forecast later.
Yesterday our table came fifth out of ten in the pub quiz. Not bad considering there were only two of us. Just a bit of fun really. We did very badly on the round on YouTubers and Social Media celebrities!
Today I am driving back home to Herefordshire after church. I intend to spend the afternoon reading and knitting.
Stunning housecoat karmalady beautiful colours.
Happy day all.
Good morning Michael and all GN's from a very chilly , dark North Yorkshire . I think that the borrowers have been here, as at the moment, my watch seems to have disappeared, along with a favourite pen which is usually at a specific place. The remote for the tv in the lounge is nowhere to be seen either. Perhaps they are all tucked somewhere safe together! Well after yesterday there is much dumped down that needs sorting this morning.
Well bravery was definitely rewarded yesterday, and I had a lovely day - apart from physically of course. I had been in a lot of pain with the added annoyance of bad cramp in my leg, which even when it eased kept giving me that warning that it was about to start again. Very frustrating, as it was sunny and dry if chilly, and would have been a great day to clear up in the garden. So frustration level very high, I know myself well enough to know that if I stayed at home I would either keep trying to do things or just get so annoyed at what I couldnt do, so I went quickly down the market on the yellow peril and got a few things and then with much hobbling about I got myself a picnic together and coffee things together and spare jumpers and both my fleece to keep warm in the car and my big warm mac that I had for the artic and set off. I knew that if I was outside the car it would be very slow tortoise speed moving and the wind was quite biting and a really chilly morning. Nearly gave in as I was struggling so much and so slow, but I had seen an autumn festival in a village , supporting a cancer charity. So the plan was to go there for some coffee and a much round there and then if ok on to the coast. Well fortune favours the brave.
The journey was lovely seeing the countryside and having lovely music on radio 3. I had been to the village before but not found the village hall, so had to stop and ask someone as there seemed to be no signing of it anywhere and three different roads to choose from. However I eventually got there, and had my disabled badge on display , as I parked as near as possible to the entrance. I just sat for a few moments, trying to gauge if my leg was going to let me move and then got my act together and hobbled over.
Well it was a really lovely atmosphere, A buzz of conversation, people of all ages from babies to my sort of age, and obviously a lot of villagers , who were catching up with each other and manning stalls etc. There was a centre table where people where having their tea - or in my case coffee, with a beautiful autumn flower decoration and a lovely atmosphere.
I definitely had to keep sitting down and took my time going round , but there were all the stalls that can be expected at an occasion like this, and whilst I, regretfully had to leave lovely home made jam , I was very pleased to succumb to a beautifully home made meringue, which I carefully put aside to take with me for later. Then I wandered the stalls and saw some lovely plants and all sorts, naturally took some time looking at books , and then had a go on the tombola ,no good luck there, but then bought some tickets for the raffle. They were £1 each, but the raffle prizes were very good, and someone had obviously worked hard , persuading people to gift a lot of good things. I enjoyed meeting people and told someone how I had seen it in the local paper. I always try to let people know if I have found it through the paper, as I know myself , you can wonder if the expense of putting it in the paper is worthwhile and whether many people read it.So the secretary who had put it into the paper was pleased to hear that I had seen it there, and would not have known about it without the newspaper, as I dont live locally to them.
So all very nice and I had put my phone number on the tickets in case I had left when they drew the prizes, but as I collected my prize meringue I just asked when it was likely tobe drawn and they said in about 5 minutes, so I sat back down to watch the draw. As I have said before on other posts, I am usually the next to the winner number, and not in any great expection of a prize, but yes I was a winner! Clutching my bottle and my meringue I hobbled back to the car, having really enjoyed my time and reminded of my mother in the WI running similar things.
My leg was still causing me problems and I was still struggling and thought it was no good going home as there would be little I could manage , apart from getting more frustrated!! So I took myself off to Saltburn. It was definitely a very autumn morning, clear but quite a biting wind.
I made it to the the promenade and after quite a bit of cruising up and down managed to get into a rather narrow space, but was then able to get myself sorted. With my rather squashed sandwich, a small pork pie and of course my much anticipated meringue, and some fresh coffee made, I was happily ensconsed with a good view of the surfers, dogwalkers, families well wrapped up and with my binoculars to hand ,and my Yorkshire post at the ready I sat there quite happily for a couple of hours. I hobbled out a couple of times to try a little walk along the prom, but my leg and the cold rather defeated me and was glad to get back and warmed up and let the binoculars show me what was going on. I did make the most of my day and then came home, getting parked and a bit of the unpacking brought in, but the rest to be sorted today.
I was pleased to get warmed up, and started to sort things out but my back was very painful and I eventually sat down to see the late news and of course promptly fell asleep in the chair and woke about 2am, surrounded by all the things I had not done! Getting to be a bad habit this. However hobbled off to bed to get warmed up and eventually got to sleep.
So it was a lovely day, ignoring the pain and cramp bit, and will provide a good memory for lesser days in the future. So no great plans for today apart from tidying up, returning things to their proper place, hunting the snark - well the watch actually - and it will just be the mundane routine, but with good radio to accompany my day, the rest of the paper to read and generally try to end up facing next week , with things neat and sorted and ready for whatever that brings .How lovely to have a good day that worked out well, to brighten the spirit. Well it doesnt seem to be either warming up at all or even a sign of any daylight so far.
I hope you have a good domestic day Mick, enjoy your cycling.GrandMattie hope all goes well with your day. I have never tried doing anything with quince, although I like the smell of them. My great aunt used to have quince and medlar trees besides the usual apple and one pear tree, but I was very young then and hadnt really begun baking or making jams. Melanie61 glad all went well for your husband and hope that he will soon be pain free and able to do more things. Glad to read you had a good catch up with your friend Greyduster. I am reminded that I must get my calendar up to date and then ring my oldest friend to organise a get together before christmas things take over the whole month. My oldest friend of 79 years and even when we see each other so few times in the year we carry on as if we had only been apart for a couple of days. We may meet in York, but I think we might look for somewhere over on the wolds. It seems so long since I have been over that way,
Time to get going and I think for once today I may have something more than cereal, on this chilly day. Perhaps even a boiled egg might be pleasant. Have a lovely brown speckled shell that will just look lovely in my white eggcupThe wonderful Bach Brandenburg is the Bach before 7 on the radio so I shall hear the rest of that and then make a start.Wishing all GNs a peaceful and happy day, with contact with a loved one.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 1° and frosty. The car will need scraped. Madeleine what a lovely day you had. GrandMattie I've never tried quinces. Melanie I'm glad your dh is recovering well.
Yesterday I met up with friends for breakfast at my local garden centre. We sat and chatted for ages. On the way out, we visited Pavers and I spotted a nice pair of boots. The shop was very busy, so I will go back when it's quieter. Once home, I washed the bedding and tidied up, although it wasnt too bad. In the afternoon, dd and the boys appeared. They had gone to the park at the end of my street. Both boys were impressed with the tidy garden and dgs2 got busy with a trowel to make it untidy again! They werent long away when my aunt arrived. It was lovely to see her. She and my uncle had been in Montenegro for a week. All in all, a very sociable day.
Today I will head to aldi for food then home. I have a delivery coming. Then quietly pottering is the order of the day. I intend to make soup and more egg muffins for easy breakfasts. Definitely a curry tonight. Have a good day all.
Good morning everyone from Lancashire.
I'm so pleased your DH's operation went well, Melanie. Fingers crossed for a good recovery for him. You're right to pace yourself, especially as you'll be covering him at work as well as caring for him at home.
That looks a very cosy dressing gown, Karma. I like the contrasting piping.
Your trip sounds to have been a success, GrandMattie. Perhaps it will become an annual event.
Your day out sounds lovely, Madeleine. You're very brave driving with threatening cramp. I'm always worried that it might come back while driving.
Today we have our monthly contact meeting with the little chap's parents.
We have booked an indoor play area in Rawtenstall where we will meet for a couple of hours.
Hope you all have the best day possible. 🌻
Good morning from a gradually lightening N Surrey.
Hopefully it will stay dry and I will potter about in the garden. Raking and sweeping. The garden rubbish bin is full so leaves and conkers will be raked into a neat pile.
The bin will be emptied on Tuesday morning and refilled to the brim by Tuesday evening. I wish it were emptied weekly and not fortnightly in the autumn.
There must be a north wind as the house feels chilly despite the heating coming on at 6.00.
I am going to look at electric blankets on line today.
I hope everyone has a pleasant autumn Sunday.
madeleine45 I can recommend watching tv on iplayer on an ipad or tablet in bed. At least then if you fall asleep as I do you are tucked up warm, comfortable and in bed, not having to get ready for bed at 2.00 am. At that time of the morning, my house feels extra cold as would I.
Good morning from a dry and cool NE, 6° at present with a forecast of 11° later.
DS and family called yesterday and we left to go to the restaurant, we allowed plenty of time but unfortunately there was an accident which caused tailbacks.
We did get there and the meal was superb with lovely company.
DD and SIL are travelling home to Brussels this morning.
I will be having a quiet day watching TV and reading.
Have a good day.
Good morning Mick and everyone from very chilly Carlisle where it is 2°C.
I had a poor night's sleep and spent some time listening to the World Service, if there's something interesting on, concentrating on following it tends to make me doze off, as it did this time eventually.
My kidney infection has also bounced back, just as I'm about to finish a fortnight's worth of antibiotics, which usually sort it. I'm fed up, to say the least.
Yesterday was beautiful weather though chilly. I went into town and treated myself to coffee and an excellent scone in the Cathedral's cafe, which was busy, deservedly, in spite of the rather early time. By the time I'd finished, it was time for the Cathedral exhibition. It was very popular, lots of folk of all ages were keen to see the Moon hanging from the Cathedral ceiling! No, not the real one, though I haven't seen that in the sky recently...it's a touring art work!
Back home for an early lunch and an idle afternoon reading the papers and a book. In the evening I watched the last episode of David Attenborough's Life on Earth, all redone in HD and very well too. Wish there were David Attenboroughs in charge of some countries!
Today..a quiet one I think. I haven't gone on my early walk but if I feel better, maybe after lunch. I'll do some tidying jobs this morning, there's still some summer gear to put away and a pile of summer shoes to clean. I've far too many shoes!
I hope everyone's up to enjoying the day, best wishes!
Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is -1°C.
I shall have to defrosst the windscreen, before I go to Mass.
GM, I think that was very kind of the lady to offer you produce.
Surely, there were other parishioners, who could have used it?
I sometime put items on a table in the church porch, saying, Please help yourself.
You would be surprised at what people will take.
DD's balloon flight was cancelled yesterday, due to high winds, such a disappointment, especially as they had made such a long journey to York.
To be honest, I was relieved, I was quite anxious about it.
Wishing you all a pleasant Sunday.
Good Morning everyone from the central south coast. It doesn't feel as chilly as yesterday and the east wind has eased a bit, which helps.
Yesterday I had the quiet day I needed after a busy week and the funeral on Friday afternoon which caused me a lot of introspection and some sadness. DH enjoyed his Saturday cycle club outing in the South Downs with the usual coffee and cake stop.
While he was out, I cleared my desk of all the bits which had accumulated and needed attention so felt lighter for doing that. I do not like clutter of any kind and always like to feel organised.
I am another with a need to be at least on time but actually prefer to be early for meetings, appointments etc. My Dad used to say "punctuality is the politeness of Kings" and luckily DH is the same if not quite as much as me! (I am always ready first).
Laundry today, with his sports gear filling his laundry basket so needs must. No doubt we shall have DD doing a video call to check up on us. She is another who likes to be organised and the Sunday morning call is on her schedule.
Thinking of everyone with struggles of any sort and hope the day brings some ease and comfort. Have a good day with whatever you are all up to!
Just lost another post!
Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s bright and sunny and cool at the moment. Showers may arrive later. We had some showers yesterday afternoon but otherwise it was a cool bright day. I’ve been invited to DD1’s for a roast at lunchtime - early to fit in with her and DD2’s commitments.
grandmattie good that you arrived home safely yesterday, it sounds as though today will be busy for you.
madeleine a pleasant day for you yesterday, I hope the meringue was as nice as anticipated. I hope the missing items are found quickly today, so frustrating when you know they must be somewhere in your apartment!
ash I hope that the 5 litre box of Grenache fits in your fridge!
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a clear sky and feels quite cold, the weather app says it’s just 2°
Hoping you feel a bit better soon Ekwa and you can get out for your walk
I’m looking forward to a catch up call with DS this morning and other than that we’ve nothing planned. I might wrap up warm and get outside in the garden, there’s a lot of things that still need tidying before the winter. We’ve not that many leaves to clear up yet, that’ll be a job to do in a couple of weeks time
I hope you manage to book a night or two away roses you definitely deserve it
Hoping everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐
Good morning from dry and bright South Lanarkshire.
The husband of one of our yarn group died very suddenly and unexpectedly yesterday, it was a huge shock, poor woman. So true that we don’t know what’s around the corner for any of us.
I had a quiet afternoon yesterday while the children were out with their Dad. He and the eldest had a session at a climbing wall while DH watched the others at softplay. I’ve booked a table at a ceramic painting cafe for them all today which I hope they will enjoy then this evening DS and the eldest are camping overnight a few miles away.
I’ll go to Mass first though, many prayers needed to get us all through a difficult time.
Wishing everyone a good day, thinking of those with troubles to bear.
Hello everyone pleased to say we are now through the three family operations, two planned and the emergency. I have been away from home for sometime but now settled back in. I have tried to keep up with the news where I could. The patients are now on the mend.
Best wishes to all
Good morning the sky is blue the sun is shining it is 9° with a high expected of 15°
Nothing planned other than DD and the 11yr old popping in for a late Sunday lunch (7ish) (roast beef)
Enjoy your Sunday 🙋♀️
Good morning from Suffolk where, looking at the big puddles on the drive,we had heavy rain overnight.
The surgery was very well organised for our jabs yesterday. No waiting,3 ‘jabbers’ and 400 people being dealt with before they finished at 2.30pm.
Predictably DH has had no reaction whereas my left arm which had the Covid jab is sore. Hopefully it will be back to normal later today.
The sun has just emerged and we have a quiet day at home. I hope all have a day of your choosing.
Morning, 6 feels like 1 in S Hants.
Just move the shelf down Ashcombe!!
Yesterday we explored the freezer and have started using the contents, chicken kebabs last night. I was so bad at just adding more food to it without checking.
Towels finished drying indoors overnight can go away now, I’m going to run limescale remover through the w machine and dishwasher later.
I was sad yesterday, a silver birch visible from my l room chair has disappeared, it was in a garden and mesmerising to watch in the wind.
Have a pleasant day all.
🦩
Good morning and it’s bright at the moment with rain forecast for most of the day, here in Essex.
Yesterday was lovely at Jimmys Farm, chilly but sunny , it only rained 10 minutes before leaving.
So much to see and do, although no brown bears or big cats in view. We saw Polar bears and many other species. DGD had a whale of a time as she loves wildlife and always reads the boards with information about the animal we’re looking at.,
She also loved the climbing and bouncing areas so was a very happy girl.
We took picnics and treated ourselves to hot chocolate to warm us up.
It’s very strange that on coach trips, Dd and I take her on , mostly she’s the only child.
Lots of walking through woods and we gathered pocketfuls of chestnuts - I’ve never seen so many. The squirrels will be fine for the winter . We’ll toast them in the woodburner sometime.
DS2 came to spend the day with his dad, sorted his premium bonds top up and took him to have his photo taken for passport renewal. They had a nice day together.
I , too, like to be early or bang on time. Dh always a little tardy but never late. I thinks it’s very rude and I have one friend who is always late for everything, keeping people waiting and drifting in , not really apologising. It makes alot of people very cross, but knowing her for a long time , I expect it and allow extra time.
Chicken and veg in the slow cooker . DS and DIL coming for coffee late morning and to have a look at the new roof. Can’t wait for it all to be done now.
I hope you all have a good day. Keep warm 🧣
