Good morning from a dawning Bristol. Another dry day beckons.
Yesterday was very quiet, I spoke to no one. I did, however do two loads of washing which was line dried, folded, ironed where necessary, and put away.
Today, I’m cleaning my bit of the church, then on to coffee there.
I hope everyone has a happy weekend. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good Morning from Malta where the forecast is for a sunny day with a high of 39°C.

I enjoyed having my treasure no.2 yesterday morning. We made a huge train track then he played hairdressers. My hair was thoroughly brushed amd blown with the hairdryer (cold air!)

In the afternoon I went to clean my car before going to the real hairdresser who did my roots and got rid of my silver parting😅

This morning I’m meeting a pal for coffee and later the boys are coming for a sleepover.

Wishing a good day to you all.☀️

Good morning from Sheffield
Not a lot planned for today really .
I shall take the dog out this morning. He’s spark out on the bed at the moment . It did make me laugh when he was a puppy. He was put in a cage at night and then a bed in the kitchen. There was no way he was going to sleep on S annd DIL bed, and now he doesn’t sleep anywhere else . He’s very crafty though, if you just touch him with your toe he moves quickly so he doesn’t get kicked off.
Then this afternoon we have a bit of food shopping to do and then we are relaxing in the evening .
I’m getting on with the fair isle jumper . I’ve only got three rows of the fair isle bit and then onto the body. I’m very pleased how it’s going so far

Take care everyone flowers

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it looks as if we might have a dry day.

I did a lot of nothing yesterday, feeling very washed out, went to bed very early last night and slept well, but this cold now seems to have gone down onto my chest. Hey ho! There are people with far worse things to worry about!

I will do a small shop this morning and see what the day brings after that.

Have the best day you can, folks.

RosesandLilac Sat 22-Aug-26 06:44:28

Good morning, a very autumnal feel to the morning today here in south Glos, it’s so lovely to have cool fresh air.
Very little happened here yesterday except my lovely neighbour popped in for a cup of tea and I caught up on all her news.
I found a recipe for rose hip syrup, so I need to get out and pick rose hips sometime. There’s plenty around here from the wonderful dog roses in the hedgerows (I also have one in my garden that’s growing from a shrub rose, I didn’t have the heart to rip it out!) I will need to collect some bottles too.
M&S cottage pie for dinner, home grown runner beans too 😋
I will sit in the garden today, I have a pile of books to read so I’ll make a start 😊
Have a lovely weekend x
🌹

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and cloudy. This is my second attempt as I was bumped out by a phasing expedition. Lots of red lines etc.
Bellasnana enjoy the sleepover with your treasures. Rosesandlilac reading sounds good.
Yesterday I enjoyed my catch up with friends. One of the ladies brought a collapsible stick for me to try. I havent taken it out of the bag yet but soon ... Dd popped into the restaurant where we were meeting to say hello. She had been to the optician for a contact lense check and has apparently got dry eyes.
In the afternoon I read and rested my sore feet. Dd sent me photos of the boys school photos. They are very sweet.
This morning I will be heading over to ds in Stirling with various things (he asked for) to help him stage his flat for selling. That all kicks off on Tuesday, I think. He has promised breakfast. After that, I will do some housework at my house. Dinner is a question mark at the moment. Have a good day all.

Somewhat fuming folks as I had nearly finished and the flipping lot disappeared and I cant get it back. So I am going to have to leave it and catch up later .At least I hope to read all your posts and hear of your doings. For now suffice it to say that yesterday was a day from hell and it is confirmed I now have cellulitis again. The day has started to warm up and is sunny and still. Hope you all had a good day yesterday and that today will be a good one

Redcar Sat 22-Aug-26 07:18:08

Good morning everyone from a sunny and parched mid Essex. No rain yesterday and none forecast until the middle of next week.
No luck at bingo yesterday lunchtime. I had my hair cut and coloured in the afternoon, so a lazy day. The washing machine is on this morning and the bedding needs changing. I need to clean the shower room but may not do that today.
DD2 may call in on her way back from a bathroom showroom this morning. They’re having a loft extension which will include an en-suite, so need to find fittings they like.

* rosesandlilac* enjoy your day sitting in the garden reading. Please don’t pick the rose hips yet, still too soon for that sort of exercise!

greyduster I hope you feel better soon.

Have the best day you can folks.

Ashcombe Sat 22-Aug-26 07:31:17

Good morning from a bright and sunny Torbay.

Yesterday I treated myself to brunch at a nearby bistro whilst my cleaner worked her magic. A meal cooked for you is such a treat - I’m missing DH’s culinary skills, amongst other things. However, it does make life easier being on my own during the run of a play.

Today sees our final two performances. Our prompt lady is unavailable so I have to cover for Act II as I’m only on stage in Act I. It will be a long day with a chippy tea being ordered to sustain us between performances when the presentations to the director and assistant director take place.

Wishing everyone a happy weekend. 🦩🥰🎭🥰🦩

Good morning from a cool but sunny N. Bucks.
The last couple of weeks have been fairly quiet. Clubs all shut and friends and family on various holidays. It’s nice for a while but it will e good to get back to a busier time while I am still able.
Food shop locally this morning, nothing else planned, so we’ll go with the flow.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 22-Aug-26 07:41:33

Good morning from a very still Stockport.
Yesterday’s damp and cool morning turned into a lovely warm evening.
I went out for a meal with my friend across the road, it wasn’t a relaxing time.
My friend has started to repeat things, she is normally very sharp witted indeed.
She was very awkward with the staff and insisted on moving tables , the restaurant was very busy, we were asked if we would go upstairs, the stairs were steep and when we eventually got to our table she said very loudly ,well we won’t be coming here again.
I felt the staff were not friendly towards us after that all though professional but the atmosphere was restrained.
The food was excellent but very large portions which neither of us finished, hence more awkwardness on my part, it was also very expensive as I am finding most eating out now.
I couldn’t rest when I got to bed, my innards were knotted up with food and tension, I must think my strategy for future invitations to go out.

I am finding ageing brings so much angst, but better than the alternative.

I hope today brings you all some joy or comfort.

monk08 Sat 22-Aug-26 07:41:57

Good morning all from the Black country more rain overnight but the sun is now breaking through.
Trip to M&S outlet today I would like some navy trousers and I'm still trying to find some more jeans.
Over to our friends in Redditch later.
Do hope Madeleine managed to see a doctor yesterday.
Usual Saturday full English calling so will catch up with everybody's happenings later.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans 😎

madeleine45 Sat 22-Aug-26 07:45:16

Good morning Michael and all GN's from a still coolish morning quite grey. But I cant tell which way it is going. Fingers crossed, the sky darkens and we get a quick downpour , before it all begins to heat up. But we are definitely going into it getting darker earlier in the evenings , so even with a hot day, it should be cooling down a little earlier.

That saying " it never rains but it pours" may not work literally at the moment , but is definitely appropriate to my life at the moment! What a day I had yesterday, with not a single plan or wish for the day happening - and not for good reasons.! I am sat here feeling as though I have done 10 rounds with Mohammed Ali! But , my self knowledge, and polite determination, has at least meant that I am in a little better state.

After the saga of the freezer etc, my plan for first thing in the morning, was to try and sort out who I need to contact , and hope to find someone who could replace the seal on the freezer, and in the meantime, to be able to put frozen things in friends and neighbours freezer, and also cook various things, so that I could safely put them back in the freezer and not lose them. I also thought , I could use the best steak mince, to make some bolognase or whatever sauce, and that could be put in small portions to enjoy later. I would give friends something, warning them that they needed to cook it, and then they could freeze it. I would err on the safe side, and any meat that I wasnt totally sure about, would be given to my friends dog to enjoy.

Best laid plans!! Already , full of aches and pains, I was really struggling to get going and my leg was also very painful, and looking down at it, I could see the telltale reddening, and comparing it to my right leg I could already see clearly the swelling was showing things were not going well. As I have told the saga on here, I had cellulitis, and didnt recognise what it was the first time, when I had just moved and it was covid. So I didnt immediately recognise it and it ended up where they wanted me in hospital and were concerned about sepsis etc. and I managed to stay at home , but had to be taken for injections for 16 days and it was a rough time.

The next time I had a recurrence, I recognised the symptons and immediately went to the doctors , on an emergency appointment , and it was caught quickly enough so that with antibiotics and care and jiggling my various other medications, I avoided hospital or needing extra care from the surgery and managed it myself. So yesterday, looking at my leg, all thoughts of freezers or anything else were abandoned, and I literally showered, had some weetabix and didnt even have a coffee, but went in the car to the surgery.
I also needed to then see the pharmacy about them missing my statins from the parcel. If this had happened on thursday, I could have waited to see how things were, for the day etc., but as the surgery would be shut on the weekend, and that would mean 3 days for it to get hold again, I knew I had to act straight away.

So, naturally , no disabled space in the car park to start with. Quite a queue at the reception, but waited my turn, and then politely said that I needed an emergency appointment for today, and was about to explain, when she started to say , there were no vacancies left, in that tone that thinks you are trying to queue jump or whatever. As she started to speak again, I held my hand up, put my best teachers eye contact, and voice on and interuppted. I informed her that I had been told by the doctors that if this problem started I was to get in touch immediately to avoid things getting worse. That as it was friday, I could not risk waiting until monday, and that if necessary I would sit in the waiting room all day, and would see any available doctor. I did not raise my voice, nor become hectoring , but I definitely got the message across. So I was asked to wait while she sorted it out, and told that she couldnt guarantee that I would be seen quickly. She came back to me and said I would need to come back in about an hour and a half and then wait.

That was fine by me, and so I then proceeded to the pharmacy, to sort out the missing statins, again with the fact that it was friday, meaning it had to be dealt with now. Luckily for me, they have a seat there, which I was grateful for. They are a smallish shop, always very busy, and a good working team. So I sat there for quite some time, and then explained what was missing, that I had filled in my repeat prescription correctly and so forth, She went away to check and came back to say that there hadnt been a prescription issued for that particular medication, and we went through things and she left me sat there whilst she tried to find out what was going on.

I sat there for a long time, wishing I had bought my local paper on the way to the doctors, so that I had something to read. Then she came back to say it would take a while to sort it and I said that I was coming back to the dr,s and would call in again. Went back to my car, which was then blocked in, and I couldnt get out, and it ended up that I didnt even get a paper or anything and just went back into the surgery.

Frosty look from the receptionist but then down to the doctor, of course at the far end of the corridor, and I hobbled down there with my bad back and bad leg very slowly. Never met this doctor before, but went through everything and she confirmed it was cellulitis again and so said she would send a prescription over to the pharmacy, and it might be a few minutes. Huh! I limped over and returned to my chair to wait, for both the antibiotics and the missing statins. By this time I was feeling quite rough, hungry and in a lot of pain, but at least glad that I had stuck to my guns and was getting some help.

Sat and sat and sat. The lady said did I want to go home and come back, but I said no I needed to wait, as it was very important I started with the medication asap and also it was actually harder for me to be getting up and down several times with my back being so painful. I thought about my freezer slowly defrosting, but this was the priority. I was there until nearly 2,45 and when I left at last, on the good side I had what I needed, but had only some water, no lunch and done no shopping and not even the paper. ! Was totally exhausted , and literally got in and just made a coffee and got a couple of biscuits and went to take the first of the tablets an then went to lie down to try and ease the back pain. What a flipping saga, and all the while it had been a pleasnt day outside , not too hot and the odd shower, and I hadnt even sat outside. Oh and now to add insult to injury, while I am taking this medication, I have to keep out of the sun, cover myself up etc ., Oh well at least I did feel vindicated, in knowing that was what I needed to do.

So today, my leg is very swollen and red, to the point where it is quite painful and it sort of feels as though the skin is too tight and hot. But hopefully things will start to improve now I have begun the tablets.

Today, I am abandoning any thoughts of getting things done, just need to recuperate, and hope to meet up with a friend for a quiet sit down with a coffee and let myself calm down etc.

So at last have retrieved this post Those flipping gremlins at gransnet seem to be having a field day of causing hassle with posts at the moment. I hope someone can find them and get rid of them soon.

I totter off now for a much needed coffee and wish you all a good weekend and hope that you have been having a better day than I did. Fingers crossed I might have more control of next week.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's cool but sunny

Yesterday's U3A day out at Jupiter Artland was very nice. Lots of walking and some strange exhibits. 😂

I baked a cake for open house in the town hall and went out to have dinner with my friend. I took her a bag of good coffee rather than wine.

My plums have been good this year too Puss . I made jam and most of it has gone as gifts. Apples aren't ripe yet.

I'm glad you're resting Rosesandlilac

Have a good weekend everyone.

Grandmabatty Sat 22-Aug-26 07:51:57

Madeleine I am really sorry to hear about your health woes from yesterday. I hope the tablets quickly take effect. Grammaretto lovely photos.

kittylester Sat 22-Aug-26 07:52:39

Good morning all from a brightish North Leicestershire.

Today will be a slow day, hopefully, after a bonkers day yesterday. Before I went out for my usual Friday shop, I told DH that he wasn't to go on the roof to check out a problem - we have loveky, reliable, competent roofers.

When i got home, a plaintiff voice asked me to come upstairs. We have an upstairs 'conservatory' with access onto the roof and DH was sitting in the conservatory with blood pouring from his foot. The floor was covered in blood and bloody tissues. He had slipped on the slates, lost his shoe and cut his foot on a slate. We spent the afternoon at A&E.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Gelisa Sat 22-Aug-26 07:54:33

Good morning from Morecambe Bay where a lovely day weatherwise is promised. It will make up for the soaking I got last night when we took CDog on the marsh for his last walk. We waited until we thought the shower had passed and the outward walk had the low sun in our face. Behind us was a black cloud. We hoped it was heading away from us but no, it came our way and the return walk was somewhat wet! We did walk towards a beautiful rainbow arc to compensate.
I won’t get my Saturday empty as DH has pulled a muscle in his leg after his knee collapsed on him a few days ago and he is limping, so although he’s putting on a brave face I don’t trust him not to fall over again while out on his own with the dog, so I’ll go with them. When we get back I think I’ll venture into the garden and see if I can tidy it up a bit.
It’s so frustrating when our posts disappear - GN HQ can you not sort this for us? It’s definitely a glitch with this site as it doesn’t happen anywhere else.
Take care everyone 🌸

luluaugust Sat 22-Aug-26 07:54:54

Good morning from a sunny but cool W Kent. Usual sort of Saturday get the washing on and buy some curry. DS and DIL are away and DD2 just back but will now be getting ready to return to school, her classroom this year is rather dark apparently.
Sorry to read your diagnosis Madeleine
Best wishes

Marydoll Sat 22-Aug-26 08:00:09

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 6°C.

I am another, who lost their post, the site froze.🤬

I don't really have anything to report.
Yesterday, I went to Sainsbury's, but had to sit in my car for a while.
Lifting heavier objects seems to be triggering my angina,

DD appeared unexpectedly, I had thought she was working, but flexied herself out. She had had enough of unpleasant phone calls! 😉
She proceeded to lecture me about going out too much, ie church, Doctor's, chemist and Sainsbury's.🤷‍♀️ such an interesting life, I lead.
No-one believes, that you are unwell,, because you are never in, she said.
She has no idea what it is like, living with DH, when he is in one of his difficult moods. Sometimes, I just gave to get away.
He is very plausible and has the wit to appear normal with visitors. 😔
I also have to prove to myself, I am not at death's door.
I am not giving in.

Normal Saturday for me, church admin and Vigil Mass, where I hope to see Dollie.♥️

Best wishes to all, who are feeling poorly. Madeleine, be careful in the heat. I had my very first episode of cellulitis in 40°C heat in Seville. It was awful. 💐

Have a pleasant Saturday and have a lovely sleepover, Bella*,

Gingster Sat 22-Aug-26 08:01:21

Good morning and it’s a lovely day. Cool, sunny and calm, but no rain forecast,
Even when it is forecast, we don’t get any here in Essex.

Yesterday I had my eye appointment. Very quick, efficient and 10 minutes in and out. £175 please.
Never mind I was pleased my pressures were stable but when I asked about laser or anything else that would enable me to drive again, the answer is No, the damage is done and vision lost, cannot be regained . 😢.

Philosophical is my middle name. You can’t be anything else.

Today ds1 will pop in with dog food. I can only get it from one shop and I can’t easily get there and no online delivery.
We haven’t seen h8m all week as our rail line is still down after the derailment a week ago. He has to go in a different line.

Dd and DGD coming for lunch and give me another helping hand with declutterring DH’s ‘stuff’. He such a hoarder but now doesn’t really care. I show him things and he just says ‘throw it’.

I have found some paperwork that will help with the dreaded HMRC form.

We’ve had some photos from ds2 and family having a whale of a time in LA. He looks ok so hopefully the sciatica has eased.
He will help me with the form when he’s back.

I’m trying to get more premium bonds for Dh. He’s had 8 since he was a teen. After filling the form to update his details, online 😬. We received a letter saying he’s ready to purchase more bonds. I phoned, he was able to speak to the operator, so far so good. Oh no! She couldn’t find his records or reference number. So she’s sending out a form to fill in AGAIN and this will take 7 days to arrive. Goodness me, don’t they want our custom.

Why is life so frustrating ! Things used to be so simple.

I hope all those feeling under par , improve and can enjoy the day.🌺

Gelisa Sat 22-Aug-26 08:02:23

Madeleine and Kitty what awful days you had yesterday 💐

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 22-Aug-26 08:10:18

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It looks like a beautiful day.

Our daughter is coming later for the weekend. I will cook dinner tonight and I’ve booked a table at our favourite Sunday lunch restaurant for tomorrow.

I made a new pudding recipe - white chocolate mousse. It is tasty and light.

My new ice cream machine may be delivered today. I look forward to trying it out.

Have a good day everyone. I am thinking of those of you with difficulties, especially Madeleine.
