Evidently replying to a sour piece about him:

‘James Marriott is clearly no fan of my putative run to be the next MP for Clacton. (‘This tedious British whimsy belongs in the bin’) describing it as ‘enforced jollity’.
Enforced? Au contraire. It’s called democracy, British democracy. It will be up to the good folk of Clacton on Sea to decide what belongs in the bin, and I for one can’t wait to find out. If you’ve got a problem with that, Moscow and Beijing are but a plane ride away.’
Count Binface
Prospective parliamentary candidate, Sigma X.’

If I lived in Clayton he’d get my vote.

Absolutely 💯

Your autocorrect is evidently doing the same as mine - trying to insist that Clacton should be Clayton!

I must copy it so I can add it to the letter I cut out of The Observer years ago from Screaming Lord Sutch when he was leader of the Loonies.

Count Binface possesses something Farage does not - the traditionally quirky Brit sense of humour.

But maybe one of his dodgy crypto-coin millionaire donors might buy him one?

A taste for whimsy

Sir, James Marriott is clearly no fan of my putative run to be the next MP for Clacton (“This tedious British whimsy belongs in the bin”, Jul 14), describing it as “enforced jollity”. Enforced? Au contraire. It's called democracy. British democracy. It will be up to the good folk of Clacton-on-Sea to decide what belongs in the bin, and I for one can't wait to find out. If you've got a problem with that, Moscow and Beijing are but a plane ride away.

Farage won't out think Count Binface. Clacton could do worse than having Binface as their MP. They could get Farage again.

However, I imagine they will vote Farage again, have heard is a die hard Reform voting population.
I imagine Farage knows this and so doesn’t have to show his face and can call a by election because the voters will forgive him anything. It happens.
I recall Trump once saying he could gun down an innocent man in the street and his followers would still vote for him.
I do believe that. Sadly.

AGAA4 Thu 16-Jul-26 11:17:36

Fallingstar I agree. Farage will be voted back in but it's good to have a bit of fun with Binface.

Oh, I don't know. Vox pops from Clacton are mixed, with some of his previous voters not being too enchanted with the way he is never rarely there and they don't get responses from him.

Don't forget that only 48% of the electorate who voted actually voted for him, 52% didn't (it's that magic pair of numbers again; 52% was a winner in 2016) I can see tactical voting playing an interesting part. Though I'm happy to think that predictions of automatic re-election might lull his supporters into such a false sense of security (think 2016 again) that they don't bother to turn out for him...

Much as I would Farage to lose, I’m fairly sure he will retain the seat. I could be wrong but I don’t think Jon Harvey Count Binface wants to be an MP and if he did, it raises all kinds of constitutional questions. He’s just been put in this position by other parties refusing to engage in Farage’s stunt.

I'm not convinced Farage wants to win either.

Now we know why Farage was paid £5 million. Nothing to do with his security and all about being induced to lead Reform and stand in the GE. He should have declared the money and will have to face whatever penalty Parliament decides to impose, which could result in another by-election. It might even prove to be taxable - the tax lawyers will be delving into case law over that.

He’s been hoist by his own petard really. He may bang on about this all being an establishment plot but he clearly has enemies in Reform who would like him gone and are happy to spill the tea about what’s really gone on.
