I’m not a football fan but……

I confess I didn’t stay up to watch the game, I was thrilled though to check the score when I woke in the early hours for a loo trip.

I think this tournament is a great distraction from the woes of the world.

I am actually excited for England V Norway on Saturday.

I love watching Erling Haalands antics and the Norwegian fans doing the Viking row!
It will be an incredible atmosphere.

They had better be prepared in Miami for the alcohol consumption in Miami.
Our son lived in Oslo for a few years, he’s a rugby player who can down a good few pints but he said the Norwegians were animals when it came to alcohol!

Sorry infoman but it will be standing room only in Wetherspoons!

I really hope we win but if not I won’t feel too bad losing to Norway.

Bring it on 🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧!

Great post Sago.
I think that it will be a really good match ⚽️⚽️

We were so annoyed as the BBC said they’d put on a repeat of the match at 7.10 this morning with no spoilers. We got up at 6.30, didn’t look at our phones, didn’t put the TV on. Then at 7.08 we sat down, put TV on and a news item appeared at the bottom of the screen with the result! Totally spoiled it. Anyway we’re just watching the end now. Great match but would have been more exciting not to have known the score.

Another really looking forward to Saturday.

Two of our GS’s ( 6 & 11 ) have two favourite players, yes Haarland & Kane 🤦‍♀️⚽️

We watched it on BBC2 Gran22boys no spoiler?
Great game, but boy was it tense.
Well done England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 onwards.

Perhaps but it’s a welcome distraction and the England team are giving us a sense of pride.

My 5 year old grandson is off to school with his Harry Kane hairstyle…. And he is beginning to understand the benefits of hard work and application from an early age. Something I have struggled with but ….

The hostile crows=d were a disgrace, booing every time England touched the ball but a fabulous match despite running with 10 men.

Gran22boys Mon 06-Jul-26 11:15:28

It wasn’t a spoiler as such. It was a news headline that came up at the bottom of the screen as they do.

We don't have a TV so I haven't watched any football but I enjoyed Matthew Syed's article in The Times this morning.

It was tense but so exciting! Not a dull minute of the match. We won, we deserved it, I'll be really upset if we lose to Norway but for now I'm grinning madly at everyone I meet. Come on, England!

I don’t follow football at all but I’m really pleased for England and I hope they go on to win! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

There’s always Wetherspoons Baggs

My 13 year old grandson who watched it said ‘the sun came up before he went to bed 🌝’

I loved watching it this morning but stupidly just before I put it on I checked my phone as I'd heard it ping and hour before. It was my son but underneath his message was a spoiler...because I didn't switch notifications off. It was a brilliant match not sure I could have handled not knowing the score!

valdali Mon 06-Jul-26 18:54:12

I handled not knowing the score & there's nothing gets to me like England playing in the World Cup..... I think it was because we had so many excuses should we lose (home crowd, Mexican passion, altitude) but the Team were determined to win. So nice to see them playing with the guts that have enabled many inferior teams to beat them in the past.

nanaK54 Mon 06-Jul-26 19:35:15

I loved not knowing the score, it felt just the same as watching live.

Love football so watched it live. I set my alarm for 12.45am to be really disappointed to find it had been delayed by an hour. It was real edge of the seat stuff you just didn't know what way it would twist. I think the lads did brilliantly when down to 10 men in that cauldron like atmosphere. Very proud of Bellingham as he is a local lad made good. Worth losing sleep.

Rosie51 Mon 06-Jul-26 21:39:09

I’m lucky enough to be visiting family in the correct time zone. Boy did we need some calm down time after the match ended! The whole England team was magnificent, showed real strength and determination. If anyone can tell me where they got 11 minutes added time from I’d love to know.

I felt the opposite. I get so wrapped up watching games that I find my blood pressure rising and that's not good as it's borderline high anyway.
I didn't get stressed with Mexico's 2 goals or our red card (must give Donald a ring to get that overturned) as I knew we were on to a winner. Good result for England and my bp.

I'm glad we are winning, but watch the match, any match? I would rather stick pins in my eyes.

This

I find it very difficult to get excited about 22 men kicking a ball around. The same goes for most other sports.
