Apple wanted me to prove I’m over 18 after updating my I Pad. I have no passport, driving licence or credit card, It wouldn’t accept my bank card.
This must be common among old people, including my sister and I. She has the additional complication that she was born in Pakistan. What do others do when needing to show id, which is thankfully rare in this country?

Do you have a bus pass or blue badge . But to be honest normally companies ask for proof of address council tax or utility bill.
As you already own the I pad then they already have your information . Did you just do it online or speak to a person ? If online then phone them and explain you haven't got what they want but point out they already have your information.

I see your problem. Would a bus pass, if you have one, count? Could a doctor, vicar/priest help? AgeUK perhaps?
It seems an awful fuss just to update a piece of electronic equipment!

I don’t think the age proving matters. I didn’t do it on my iPad.

I was asked to prove I was over 18, after my iPad updated yesterday.

I clicked on to continue and got the message we can see by the length of time you have been an Apple customer you must be over 18.

This is I imagine going to be more common as more countries are bringing in legislation to protect under 18’s.

Yes, I’ve been asked to prove my ID on my iPhone after the latest security update, by scanning my credit card, driving licence or passport. I immediately checked that it wasn’t a scam and it seems it’s not, it’s just part of the push to stop under-18s accessing unsuitable sites. As I was in bed when I got the request, I selected the option to scan my ID later, being warned that my browsing would be limited till then. Two weeks on and I still haven’t had to do anything. I’ve been able to carry on accessing any site I’ve wanted to, including very sweary Mumsnet and Facebook. smile

Yes only credit card or double sided ID like a driving licence. They are working on it. It is about proving you are old enough to access content. Passports seem to work sometimes. I have been told that if you don't do it it doesn't make a difference unless you try to access er adult content.

Yes, I’ve found it doesn’t matter if I ignore that. As I’m not looking for porn I don’t need to be 18, which is my age backwards!

I’m “only” 67 but I have driving licence, passport and photo bus card (pensions bus card)

I honest think, despite the cost, EVERYONE should keep up some fo if photo ID, my mother didn’t keep up hers and it caused no end of issues.

How did you vote?

You have to provide access to photo ID now to access the NHS website.

I’m all in favour of national photo ID with chip containing vital info like emergency contacts, medical issues and allergies.

Yes, it would be something else open to ID theft, but most of us do still have photo ID for at least two things, driving and travelling. My husband has an Irish Passport, which comes along with a travel card, with same details as passport, it’s very useful as he doesn’t drive and has never owned a driving licence.

You can get a Citizens Card which is valid for many applications.

I have the same with my iPhone, I don’t have a drivers licence and only a debit card - why don’t they accept this??
Tried scanning my passport and it asked for me to scan the front and back, which is crazy do I tried to scan my passport info page and it wouldn’t do it. Can still get on to do things though but have a reminder for proof of age.

Is this just ipads or do other suppliers of tablets expect this type of proof of age?

I think because you can have a debit card under 18, but not a credit card. They ask for photos of both sides and our bus passes don't have age on them.

I still haven’t provided proof of ID/age and was in my NHS account earlier today. Just out of interest, I also went into my Paddypower account and put a small bet on. YouTube/Instagram still letting me in. Perhaps it is just porn I’m being protected from - I’m not going to check this theory out, btw!

I’ve just had to do that after an iPad update!
It rejected my credit card but fortunately accepted my driving licence but it was a bore to have to go downstairs to fetch it.
What a malarkey!
