Pierced Ears and the Royals.

Sophie Wessex definitely has pierced ears, she wears some fabulous earrings I always think.

A quick search Princess Anne, Zara Phillips, Lady Louise, and Sophie Wessex , also the late Princess Margaret , who wore some beautiful jewellery in her time. Especially when she wore her hair up.

I sat two rows behind Diana and her group at the Barbican many years ago. I saw her remove what were obviously clip-ons so they must have been hurting.

Clip ons are so painful. I’m glad I had my ears pierced.

Not just earrings, but when the current Royals wear the necklaces, rings, bracelets, brooches ( who else has the occasion to wear brooches?) tiaras, they must think of all the previous custodians, because of course so many of them are handed down through the generations, remodelled to be more wearable for the modern world.

Must be quite awesome to think who else has ‘rocked’ these jewels!

I have been to several jewellery exhibitions at the V&A where royal jewellery has been on display. Some pieces made by famous jewellers are amazing close up, not a chance we’d normally get.

Oh, that’s good to hear. I never seem to have the right occasion to wear a brooch.

I expect if you pin it to a coat, it stays there for a while.

The heavily jewelled earrings that are passed down must be clip-ons because I imagine they are heavy. I hate to see ear lobes stretched and hanging down with heavy earrings, it is so unflattering.

Calendargirl I have big chunky ones for shawls abd coats, dainty ones for dresses, sparkly ones for "occasions", gold and silver for weddings, bakerlite type ones and wooden and acrylic ones for my everyday casual linens and various weights of brooch for different jumpers.
Some are valuable and some are worth nothing. Yesterday I wore a brooch my daughter made when she was very young. It's made of pipecleaners. I love it.

I have some really lovely lightweight brooches from a lady in Ireland. Janice Gilmore - I bought the first of hers about 30 years ago. She will make brooches to order in your own colours.
They are embroidery so really light.
