The Queen and domestic violence

Good to highlight this and so great to have the Queen on board. Domestic violence victims need all the help they can get.

Some very brave women in that programme - good for HM to take on a less than "wholesome" cause.

I too was very impressed by the programme.

Had no idea Camilla was so involved with this.

I could remember seeing the documentary about Joanna whose husband killed her, and seeing her mother dealing with it all and my heart went out to her.

She and Camilla seemed like old friends. The Queen came across as warm and empathetic. Good to see.

I ,too, was greatly impressed by Camilla’s genuine kindness and her ability to engage sympathetically but sometimes humorously with those she encountered.There were little touches like when she tried to say goodbye to an unresponsive child and said something like she’ll say it when we’ve left the room that showed she knew what it was like to be a mother. Well done Camilla!Keep up the good work.

No, our late Queen wouldn't have become involved with such a campaign but the days of stuffed shirt Royalty have gone along with her. We are seeing a more open and approachable side of the Royal Family and that is how it should be in my humble opinion.

Apparently, William talks about Royalty with a small ‘r’.

This is the way forward for the monarchy.

Less formal, genuine causes, more down to earth and empathetic.

Our late Queen was very much of the "genteel" kind and never involved herself with anything that would take her close to political or controversial in any way. I'm not sure she ever actually spearheaded a campaign at all, certainly not in the same way or current royals do - and definitely nothing that involved the more unpleasant side of life.

I would say that some of the credit for getting involved with more gritty causes has to go to Princess Diana.

I did notice on the programme last night when Camilla was being introduced to some guests at one of the receptions she was accompanied by Queen Maxima of The Netherlands who is very much involved with domestic abuse issues.

Any issue taken up by royalty gains a lot of momentum and traction and I'm sure there will be an increase in people supporting domestic abuse charities either financially or by volunteering after last night's programme so it can only be a good thing.

Neither can I! ‘The Queen’ will forever be Elizabeth II in my head - she was Queen for virtually all the life I can remember.

If Camilla was referred to as ‘Queen Camilla’ it wouldn’t jar on me. Not that I have anything against Camilla, I think she performs her role very well.

I expect most of us "of a certain age" only think of Queen Elizabeth when we hear "The Queen". I don't think that will change for me.

To a lesser extent I still think of Charles when I hear Prince of Wales and my brain still takes a second to process The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

No idea whether I'll be around to witness it, but I suspect things will be vastly different when William takes the throne.

In the last decade or so of our late Queen's reign the Royal Family were almost dragged kicking and screaming into this century but now they're racing to be seen as modern and in touch.

I can see Queen Elizabeth supporting it, but she was of a different generation in a different world. Royalty are now more informal in their dealings with other people, and those affected by domestic violence would have been less willing then to expose their embarassment and shame in public, and she would have respected these feelings.

Then, royal support would be private, low-key, more formal and mainly financial, and it would not be front-page news. Nowadays publicity is all, and the content-hungry media pick up on every move of royalty (and other celebrities)

Good for her! I think Camilla beavers away behind the scenes on a lot of other issues including osteoporosis which her mother and grandmother suffered from. She is President of the Osteoporosis Society. She has over 90 patronages and I bet she keeps tabs on them all. I think she’s doing a great job for a woman of 77. She had a relatively ‘normal’ family life before marrying Charles and unlike another royal wife, has done her best to get on with becoming a member of the RF firm and doing her bit. . She could well say f* it all. I’m edging towards 80, so I’m just going to do my own thing, meet my friends, live in the country, potter in the garden and see more of my grandchildren!

I was really impressed with Queen Camillas support of violence against women and hopefully her input will reap rewards for women and the refuges and services they need.
Some awful stories and very brave women in that documentary.

I am very glad the queen is popularising this cause. She does so at an appropriate time when the monarchy has suddenly lost a swathe of popularity and when violence against women is supported by Trump.

I wonder how much extra income local our local authority would have to get, in order to offer adequate refuge spaces. It is scandalous that women and girls have to rely on charity.

Sounds like a This was a powerful documentary Maw. Hats off to Camilla for her advocacy. I will watch it on catch up when I go home.

PS Terrible to think of women and their children having to endure domestic torture. LAs must provide enough refuges, and police must get a grasp.

I watched it thinking, This is how you do it!

A high profile person with a low key style of highlighting an important issue which she obviously cares about very deeply. The focus is always on the victims.

I was 9 when George V1th died, I can just remember it! So QE11 has been The Queen for me for most of my life. However, I've had no trouble at all transferring from one Queen to another, perhaps because although I admired the late HM, I have a great deal of respect and admiration for Queen Camilla. Imo she is a remarkable lady, not least for her support and devotion through very difficult times, to HMTK, who without her would, imo be a far less comfortable King.

I have always liked Camilla, I will watch this programne today.

Good grief, only some of the credit! She led the way and showed the royal family in a very poor light. All of the credit goes to Diana.
