I have just received my Gas Bill for the summer months, May to end August. That is four months of not using gas.
I don't use gas during the summer as I only have gas central heating but I should be turning on the gas supply next month, October so I requested a final bill.
My gas bill was Zero and my standing charge amount was £45.
It does not matter how much we try and save on our gas and electricity usage, we are billed for standing charges. Since we married in 1967 I have not had a gas engineer out to my property whatsoever, so I would like to know what I am paying the standing charge for, is it just because I have a gas meter at my property and am paying to rent that because apart from that I have no idea what I am paying for.
It is the same with electricity, (I am all electric) and this month my standing charge was nearly as much as my months electricity bill as I had been at our son's home for a few days.
If I turned off all the gas and electrical appliances at the mains I would still be paying a standing charge. Disgraceful.
