I own one pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. They were bought to wear in the year that both my daughter and my son got married. I wore them for the weddings and a couple of times on cruises, otherwise they sit in the wardrobe. I might sell them, second hand Louboutins bring in quite a good price. Otherwise everything is pretty ordinary.

Oh, and I have a Michael Kirsten handbag. It bought on a cruise with left over onboard credit.

The only labels I look at are to check on the composition of my clothes/shoes and the washing instructions.

Not Michael Kirsten, for goodness sake Michael Kors!

I would only buy designer if it was a classic style that wouldn’t date easily

I have a thing for handbags, all mine are designer.

I doubt many people wear designer labels only.

I do have several Prada bags. All a bit vintage now and all bought on eBay. Once I learned to recognise genuine ones it was surprisingly easy to find bargains. I've also got a very nice vintage Gucci silk scarf that I found in a jumble sale for 50p years ago. Being a nice person I gave it to my mother but retrieved it after she died.

In the distant past I was au pair to a little girl who went on to become a designer at La Maison de Carven, Paris, and she always sent me little pieces as gifts.
Otherwise I have a Jimmy Choo handbag and a Versace jacket.

Oh, I only shop at the top designers - George, Matalan and of course, Primark!

It must be many decades ago now, but I do remember reading about ‘designer labels’ for the first time and wondering what on earth it meant - everything had been designed by somebody, hadn’t it?

In the 80s, when we were living among a largely non Brit community in the Middle East, one label I was made very aware of was LaCoste, because virtually every male except dh had a polo shirt with the alligator on. There was a mention of them in Jaws (newly published) at the time - a woman scoffing to her son that he wanted a two dollar shirt with a ten dollar alligator on it.

My frequently-favoured label at the moment is Seasalt. 🙂

The label I'm wearing at the moment is 'Craghoppers' which, need I add, was bought in a sale on-line. The (almost) matching trousers are from my go-to label, CottonTraders.

I'm not sure, but doesn't a designer label have to bear the actual name of the creator or stylist, whereas other brands are just made-up names? LaCoste definitely comes from the tennis player of that name - Henri LaCoste - and being French perhaps he was a bit of a fashion stylist too!

I was thinking that in French a designer label is a "griffe" which really means your signature stamp. Hence the perfume by Carven ma griffe which was name of Madame Carven's favourite flowers.

I don't really but do like a good brand like Hobbs & Boden,. I don't really go anywhere that warrants a huge spend on clothes. Granddaughter's wedding coming up next year and I have been looking at Rixo for that. I can only get 'ugly' shoes now after 2 lots of foot surgery so its Clarks for me. I have a couple of Radley bags that's it. Until of course when you come to golf its all Ping, Glenmuir, Green Lamb pricey well for me they are.

Rixo dresses are lovely Bertha but most far too long for me!

I went into their beautiful shop hoping to find something for a wedding in May - any that weren't too long were too flouncy or too 'young'

Never heard of Rixo Bertha and Riverwalk just looked online, dresses are beautiful.
