Crikey, I studied Endgame by Samuel Beckett for my dissertation at university, in French.
The book was about a family on a path to decay and destruction, and if I remember there was a character, Clov, maybe like Charles, who was full of sorrow and pain. The main theme was the family's inability to communicate, parent with child, and to find peace with each other.
For me, the title is no accident, and has parellels, though I'm not sure Scobie, Harry and Meghan know much about 20th century European literature.
Keep writing this trash Scoobie if you must. What you don't realise is that in the end, what you say is all ABSURD anyway. That's the point, no one is taking any notice.

I think ‘Endgame’ sounds a title more suited to how H&M will end up, rather than the rest of the RF.

He’ll get a backlash I should imagine. I think H and M have made many look at the RF and think they are ok and not so bad because it is a matter of pride and indignation that someone like Meghan should have the cheek to criticise what she neither understands or respects. Harry and Meaghan ,in a weird way, have made most of us support the British RF in a way we didn’t previously. No one likes people slating their family, especially where lies are promulgated.

Omid Scobie has denied that he us a 'cheerleader' or 'mouthpiece' fo Meghan and Harry but that is hard to believe frankly. This will be another book trashing the RF, with what he believes is a very clever title. I shan't read it!

Me neither. I thought the thread was about Scobie's attempts at a great literary oeuvre based on the theme of family break up and destruction.
I once met Samuel Beckett Endgame (in the café near Montparnasse Paris where he used to talk about his life). He was a decent guy too, but his writing was bonkers and far from the truth.

Well, actually yes, I have read it. I borrowed it from the library as soon as it was published, and wrote on GN my thoughts about it.

Harry is a troubled person, fuelled in no small part by his wife, who could have been such a help and support to him.

Instead, she has her own agenda, and seems intent on making her husband’s life as miserable as possible.

And gullible Harry will be the one left out in the cold in the end, and the RF will be there to pick up the pieces.

I think Omid Scobie has enough information on this subject matter from factual news, interviews, pro/con interest on behalf of the general population (and even world-wide interest) to write a book on the status and future of the Monarchy without consulting H&M - which many of you are condemning already without knowing a thing.

Let him write a book. Big deal! How is that going to affect you anyway? Biased (or more accurately - hateful) comments is not what I hope for here. True colors always seem to emerge on these platforms.

As you live in the USA I think it’s probably difficult to understand the cultural affiliation many of the British people have towards their royal family. Many British people feel a great deal of support for them and take criticism from abroad, and particularly Meghan, very seriously. This man can write as many books as he likes, but many British people will dismiss them as the absolute tosh that they have been in the past and certainly will be in the future.

I believe Omid Scobie worked as an equerry or some such to Princes William and Harry when they were young men, but I have no idea where I read that. He was also working in the offices of the Mirror (?) when he overheard Piers Morgan make incriminating remarks about phone hacking. Apparently.
This book, due to be published in November, may well be Scobie's attempt to upstage Harry's second memoir and dish the dirt himself. Such joy.
