I was in M&S socially distancing behind the banana stand . An elderly couple carefully selected a bunch of about 7 bananas ( the size was looking for) and the woman broke the middle one on the inside off replacing the bunch. She then did the same for a second bunch. I wished I had asked but does anyone know of the special healing magic of a middle banana? I’ve seen this happen in Sainsburys once so maybe the same woman. It’s bothering me so perhaps I should get out more.

The fruit in the centre of the hand of bananas is protected by the outer fruits, so it's less likely to be bruised. May be that it is why the lady selects from the middle. Just a thought.
