I have posted a few times in the last month about downsizing, moving in with son etc and I have finally reached a decision. I am so thankful to you all for responding and giving me your opinions on my dilemma. For the first time in my entire 60 years I have had to make a decision on my own (husband of 40 years died just before Xmas), and as I have no friends at all it has been dreadful. Your opinions/helpful insights have really helped. I have decided to move into a bungalow because I am still in the same town, near one of my three sons and it frees up as much capital as possible. So once again many thanks to you all.

I'm delighted you've made a decision that suits you ,theres nothing to stop you moving again in the future if its what you want but for now its sensible to stay in an area you know and where you have family close by ,

Congratulations on your decision. A bungalow sounds like the senseable way to go. Everything on one floor, no stairs to contend with in the future. Being near a family member(son) will also be a comfort to you, as you won't be completely alone for example if you moved to a new area where you don't know anyone..
I wish you happiness and contentment in your new home ??

It’s a huge thing making a big decision like that without your husband especially so soon after his death - and you’ve done it! I hope you feel really proud of yourself.

Wishing you all the best as you move and settle in a new home, maybe coming on to gransnet will help you feel less alone with it all. flowers

I wish you all the best in your new home. A sensible choice to move somewhere close to where you were, where things are familiar and where you gave your son nearby. ?

Mapleleaf Fri 30-Aug-19 09:22:35

That sounds to be a really good move. My only hope is that you do not have a huge garden which seems to "go" with bungalows. Good luck and I hope you are happy there.
