Music from times past

This thread has brought back memories to me, - when I was at high school, my mother used to play "Blue Train" by John D. Loudermilk over and over...

Tamla Motown. Especially The Four Tops.

I loved Theme from a Summer Place.

One of my favourite groups was the original Seekers, the one with Judith Durham, such titles as Morningtown Ride and World of our own. I loved Ray Conniff and his Singers too.

Oo so many. I was a mad Beatles fan and loved all the Liverpool stuff - Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J Kramer, Cilla etc. I also loved The Searchers, The Seekers and lots more. I had a friend who loved John Leyton, remember him? My sister, who is three years older than me filled the house with Elvis, Rick Nelson, Eddie Cochrane, Johnny Tillotson and all thoe 50s ones. They were great too.

All the above mentioned, but the other day my daughter had some music playing on her laptop and Make Me An Island, by Joe Dolan was played, I loved it at the time it came out, haven`t heard it for years. Anyone remember Joe Dolan?

'The carnival is over' was a good Seekers song too Jessity Judith Durham had a lovely voice.

Didn't John Leyton sing 'Johnny remember me' KatyK?

I remember Joe Dolan callgirl wasn't he an Irish singer? don't know any other songs he did though.

How strange, I was playing the Joe Dolan one on youtube last week-----Make me an Island. I was just sitting thinking about all the old songs and started to play them on youtube.

I loved Summer Place too and played that on youtube. Loud.! That was late 50's early 60's. I remember being in Finsbury park with a friend when that was playing.

When I first came to live in UK, London 1970- I just loved the series 'Rock Follies' and the music- and the first ever musical I saw was 'Hair' the original version.

Distant youth... taking records to parties and listening to Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue on 78, Elvis, Cliff, Joe Brown, It was all American sound. I listened to radio Luxembourg on my wee trannie - the top 40 every Sunday.
Then there were the Beatles.

Yes he did Sassenach my friend went to see him in concert in the early 60s and came back to report that there was a group on with him called The Beatles and all the girls were screaming at them. That was the start of it for me

I worked as a Saturday girl in Woolworths. The girl on the records counter would play Young Girl by Billy J Kramer over and over. My first boyfriend would come in and longer around the counter and try to distract me from my job!
At home we had Two Way Family Favourites in the wireless every Sunday lunchtime. My sister sent in a request for my mum and dad on their anniversary, she didn't specify any song, so they played Stand by Your Man!?

I had a Dansette too and for me it was the Everly Brothers as I loved the harmonies. Bought the singles second hand from the market. Six singles was my maximum.

My only other record was 'An American in Paris' with 'Rhapsody in Blue' on the other side. Still love Gershwin.

Good heavens. My parents would never allow any "pop" music in the house. We listened to "Sing something simple" on a Sunday at tea time.

It didn’t arise in our house either, Jacky B. When I saw the thread title ‘Music from Times Past’ I thought Handel and Mozart! I suppose they are for all time, really.

I was a Stones gal (Beatles were too much liked by the mums and Dads as clean-cut boys) although I lived in a small seaside town we had all the 60 s groups come to play in a local hotel (now pulled down) so I saw Stones, Gerry, Freddy, Herman, Dave Clarke, searchers ,and dozens more Then I found Motown, ska, reggae Still love it all

My mum loved Matt monroe, Sacha Distel and val donnigan and Dad only had one favourite Shirley Bassie
