Unisex changing rooms

I don't think I'm using changing rooms in shops any more. I'd sooner try them at home and return them, even though the trip is a hassle.
I also suspect stuff like this will make people shop online rather than in shops even more.

Yes, I’d report it. These locks need changing. Put it on their FB page that’ll grab their attention!

What's this idea of unisex anyway ? Don't those of us who disagree with them have a say ?

So long as unisex changing rooms have separate cubicles with floor to ceiling walls and doors (and sensible locks) then I don't have a problem.

Any other design and the shop has lost my custom.

Your experience sounds completely unacceptable OP, I would definitely complain.

Out local Asda did away with changing rooms a few years ago, said it was because of health & safety

Think it was more likely to be lack of staff manning them, and a possible increase in theft!

I think you should report it. There may be cctv cameras at the entrance which may show up the ' intruder' especially if he is a serial offender which he could well be. Also why not make it that you have to ask a member of staff to enter the changing room like they do in M&S? if they are going to have unisex cjanging rooms they should guarantee your security.

Nowadays I buy and try on at home. If the item doesn't fit I return

I haven't really used a changing room in a shop since I was in my teens when there weren't even cubicles!
Definitely report it to Asda - but do it quickly as CCTV is often only held for a short time.

Me too. I never use shop changing rooms. I always feel 'ruffled' when I've finished trying on all the items and feel I have to rush.
At home I can try on at my leisure with different height shoes and tops etc and it's no bother to send stuff back. Usually free returns anyway.

Why on earth don't people who make these decisions ( unisex changing rooms, loos etc) understand that women want privacy at certain times and I expect most men do too. Would never use a unisex changing room or bathroom (unless desperate), it's just another fad to appease a minority and/or to save money.

I've used Asda changing rooms. Hardly ever anybody in them, maybe because everyone likes to try things on at home. Not sure I would try a swimsuit on there.

Are you sure you were the only one shocked? What about the man? If the door locks are weak or, as was most likely the case, not operated properly then it is quite possible that he got a bigger shock than you.

What a cheek! I hope you gave him an earful, Annie - barging in is simply not on.

I agree with Anja - put it on their Facebook page. I have found that complaining on various companies' FB pages works wonders when nothing else does, eg. Vodafone, Plusnet, to name but a few.

Definitely report it, as it sounds deliberate.
If you put it on their FB page , it may prompt the store to improve security. The "intruder" himself may also see it and it might make him think twice about doing it again as staff/shoppers may be more alert and be able to identify him to police.

A nasty experience. Are you sure that the lock wasn’t faulty? I had a lady walk in on me in a public loo, a while ago, because the lock wasn’t ‘catching’ properly.

Any man who walked in on me, wearing just my pants, would be traumatised for life!

You should have complained at the time. Some of the shops have CCTV outside these places and they might have been able to check and catch the offender. Hope you are fine, now.

Report that - you could save a less confident person a terrible shock - not that it wasn't for you! As others have said, they must have CCTV to aid catching shoplifters, and he needs stopping!

I absolutely hate shop changing rooms and always have done.
I have long since stopped using them.
I always shop on line and try everything on in the privacy of my own home where I don’t feel rushed.
I might occasionally pick up an item somewhere but always take it home to try on.

We should be able to securely lock a door when in a changing room/public toilet and it is the duty of an establishment to have the kind of lock, as I have used and maybe these are still used in some areas, that from the outside of the lock shows ENGAGED.
