Our Afghan foster sons have grown up and moved on so we now host annual holidays for asylum seekers who have been tortured and doing so is a tremendous privilege - and a reminder never to take even the most simple things for granted.
One young boy has become very dear to us and so we invited him to spend Christmas with us last year. My husband and I were very moved when we asked if he'd like to join us again this year and he answered, 'Where else would I be but with my family?' This from a young man who saw his father and siblings killed and whose mother has 'disappeared' after being taken by troops. He is a truly inspirational young man and we are learning a lot from him.
