What do I want for Christmas?

Not quite sure what it is you would like, maybe you need to be more explicit

This is a useful 'heads up' for us all Rufus. It will not be long before the DDs and Dsis start asking 'What would you like for Christmas?' My usual response is I don't know, nothing really, but I realise this is not helpful to the people who want to please me. So I WILL think of something that I would be planning to buy for myself and let them know so that they can have the pleasure of giving.

I quite fancy the John Lewis £160 beauty advent calendar as a warm up present.

As I will tell dds soon, another pair of nice light slippers from Joules, same as last year. They don't last more than about a year, but equally are not at all expensive.

Other than that, no clue - certainly don't want any more 'stuff'. I already told dh not to bother, since I made a very extravagant purchase this summer, the prehistoric bronze tortoise who's in the pets thread. So that'll more than equal my Christmas and birthday presents from dh for the next couple,of years, I won't say no to the usual,boxes of Maltesers and Black Magic, though.

lemongrove; No way! Come on; shake a leg! It takes time to get the Hamper to OZ and in any case I promise not to open it until the "Big Day".

If you are thinking of sending the hamper to OZ - check the contents are suitable for export there. A few years ago i sent a hamper from Harrods to a family member - it did say that it was suitable for export BUT when it arrived some of the contents had been removed by customs eg the honey and pate. Apparently they are not allowed in.

Says who? Our supermarkets have been doing it for ages and they call the shots about C. Yummy mince pies from NZ been on their shelves for weeks. I love "em!

I have all the material goods that I need or want so I would like world peace . If only that were possible!

Sez us! Your supermarkets are not on Gransnet, Rufus. After a lot of moaning about being bombarded with ersatz cheer and tinny musak from July on it was agreed by posters on here that Christmas is not on the horizon until November.

I've already told family and friends NO presents for me ,if they want to they can donate some money to Mary's Meals .Thats a winner,I dont get stuff I dont need and some children get fed .

Elegran; That's not fair; I am! And the season of "Good Will to All Men" is now extended to include ladies and expatriates in these PC- enlightened times So how's my C- hamper coming along?

Sorry, Rufus it looked so nice I had to sample the contents and somehow they were all gone. Never mind, I am sure another will be along soon.

Syd261; Thanks for that advice. I emailed the "Evergreen" mag. for their advice seeing as how they are advertising the hampers. The contents list doesn't mention honey or paté, although being described as a "Luxury Overseas Scottish Hamper" I'm surprised it doesn't contain "Haggis"! OZ Customs and Excise would take the lot outside and do a controlled detonation. They are ever vigilant to prevent foreign pests and diseases from entering the country and destroying the clean and green image.

Lemongrove; Thanks for your kind offer! As they say "beggars can't be choosers", but don't worry about postage as that's included.! Probably sea mail, so that's why it's imperative to ignore that embargo on the C-word and get cracking.! Otherwise it won't be here until Australia Day.
We need only 63 of your Santa's little helpers to dib up £1 each and we're home and hosed. What can be more in the C-spirit than that? Thanks!

My husband, busy taking a bed to bits yesterday, suddenly said I know what son & DiL can get me for Christmas (already been asked for a list as she likes to start early). Eagerly anticipating the request so I could perhaps buy it if it's too expensive it turned out to be a right angled screwdriver - how many times have I seen those and thought he'll never use it!! Duly noted.

It's too early to think about the C word yes but I love it and like to see all the decorations. One of the shopping channels is having a day devoted to the big event tomorrow so will be tuning in
