Do You Aspire to be an Eminent Person?

A Melb. radio station recently postulated that if your local Council said you were an EP, and it would create a statue in your honour, whilst you're still alive, what form would you prefer, e.g. standing, sitting, on horseback etc.,; where would you put it and what inscription would suit you? One lady suggested putting her husband's statue on the pavement outside his favourite pub, but that was ruled out of order because of Council's attitude towards the demon drink. grin I think I'd go for the local railway station; plenty of viewers, but no idea of my inscription yet.

Who would clean my statue when the pigeons have decorated it?
No, I wouldn't like to be an eminent person, just a kind one.

I'd like my statue to stand in a swing park because I seem to have spent a vast amount of time pushing various children on swings in various swing parks over the years. So I'd like to be depicted as a sort of female body builder with muscled arms, and the inscription to read " She pushed well".

Sitting with a small child next to me, reading a book together.

I would give them a sweet smile and decline the offer firmly. I have no desire to see myself on a plinth, regardless of pose.

My family always accuse me of being hyperactive, saying I should stop rushing around, so I expect they woulld like a statue of me recumbent, with the inscription ‘ Still at last!!’

Jalima1108 Tue 18-Sept-18 22:33:06

"Oh, there she is" said the pigeon

I'll sit on her head.

MissAdventure Tue 18-Sept-18 22:48:07

Oh no! Not for me.
I don't even like my photo taken.

MissAdventure Tue 18-Sept-18 22:49:19

No statue for me - think of the enormous amount of materials needed to create 'short fat woman unknown'. smile

I couldn't find another thread in which to cut/paste this. The 35 reasons are fantastic; you don't have to look at the rest of it
Of course if you are a Geordie you'll be familiar with all this. grin

Nanna58Are you my alter ego or unknown twin? That is exactly what my family say and how they would react!

gillybob Wed 19-Sept-18 15:02:09

I’m a Geordie Ruf so those sights are very familiar to me . I remember you saying a while back you worked/served time wink with some Geordies and couldn’t understand the lingo .

I suppose if I did have to have a statue I would be a faceless woman looking out to sea with a basket of seaglass in her hand .

gillybob Wed 19-Sept-18 15:05:02

The view from my garden last weekend .

BlueBelle Wed 19-Sept-18 15:46:40

Nah don’t think I d want one just hope I stay in my families heart

OldMeg Wed 19-Sept-18 15:58:09

Teetime ???

gillybob Wed 19-Sept-18 16:32:15

Meant to add that I am such an "eminent person" that I am honoured with a fly past at least once a year. grin

grannyactivist Wed 19-Sept-18 17:21:58

You and me both gilly - they gave me a fly past the week before. grin

One man's 'freedom fighter' is another man's 'terrorist' and so it goes for 'Eminent' people. Not sure I would make the cut - now, if there was a prize for being attorney in the side of some eminent people I might be in with a chance! grin

worked/served time
Gillybarb; Fair go! Are you implying that me and your Geordie mates were being detained "at Her Majesty's pleasure? " shock
I was simply saying that they were incoherent (to me anyway) and there was no way you could tell when or what they were swearing. Almost as bad as the Welsh when they turned on their own lingo! grin

Welsh is an official language of the U.K.

PECS Thu 20-Sept-18 10:42:57

Though I do not aspire to having a statue perhaps if I did I could be in the bandstand (covered so no pigeons) playing a flute (or any instrument really..but I would love to be able to play the flute) with an inscription "Lucky it's only a statue"

Rufus2 Thu 20-Sept-18 10:59:05

Grannyactivists; We now get very frequent "flypasts" by maggies. It's their fun season whilst protecting their nesting areas, but more like Stuka dive-bombers hitting their targets, creating more damage than simple poop! grin

Anniebach; Thanks for that! Where else in the UK is it used? And just out of curiosity, what does "Cwtch" mean?
Unless it's a leg-pull, it should be safe for my ears! hmm
