My MiL died last January and we were really close. She gave my husband her engagement ring for me and said I know she won’t wear this ( I’ve got short stubby fingers no more room after my own wedding, engagement and thin eternity ring) but I’d like you to get it altered into a bracelet or necklace. He did and it’s a really striking piece of jewellery that I’m wearing now. It got me thinking about my own mums engagement ring that has lain in my jewellery box unworn, unseen and unloved since her death over 40 years ago. So I decided to take it to a jewellers to see if they could do somthing with it. Together we decided on a pendent to hang on a gold chain. The problem is when he was looking at it he said “oh it’s old and worn away in places” and I remembered that she’d worn it every day. I could see my mums hand in my minds eye. Now I feel a bit odd about having it altered. I know I’ll wear it more if it’s necklace, I know I’m being daft or perhaps it’s just stirred up old memories. What if anything have you done with your parents jewellery?
Do you feel no-one listens to you?

. I couldn't possibly wear it. I keep it in my jewellery box with my other precious, but not necessarily valuable things.
