Consessionary Bus Travel

I've never been issued with a ticket when using my bus pass.

No, come to think of it, never. I assume the new system of placing the pass on the scanner was registering it. But then there’s no record of when I get off the bus.

Always given a ticket when l use my pass.
I use 2 different companies.

They issue a ticket here in Colchester, such a waste of paper.....I've never seen a ticket inspector.
I'd love to have a bus pass, but will have to wait until State Pension age which has been moved to the distant future....

I used mine for the first time yesterday and received a ticket. It's sitting right next to me on my desk.

Some give tickets some don't

I used to get a ticket but they no longer give one in my area.In fact, I never get one even when using it farther afield.Also we don't need to say where we are getting off.

I'm like Pittcity but will have to wait until I am least 67 to get one that's if they are still around by then.

Our local buses don't issue tickets to pass holders.

Bus fares in our area (the North East) are very expensive for fare paying passengers.

Having spoken to the "12 year old" responsible for Council Funded bus travel in Essex, there is no need to record where you get on or off as the bus company is paid a set rate per journey by the local authority for concessionary travel. This amount is obviously not enough as routes that are primarily used by the elderly are being cut as unprofitable. Maybe they could save by not printing unnecessary tickets.

I just show my bus pass or sometimes tap it on the wotsit beside the driver.
Many years ago I used to get a ticket when I took the X5 to Oxford, but not recently.

I don't get a ticket within the city, or within London. I do if I get a bus with a route going out of the city to another town even if my journey is within the city.
The first one I was issued pleased me as I have friend who collects tickets and I knew he'd be interested to hear about it!

We don't get a ticket on our local buses funded by the County Council but do when we travel on a private company bus.

In Northants we have 2 Stagecoach operators , the Banbury service is a no, but the 88 to Northampton and the X91 to MK are ticket issued .
X5 experience they issue if the machine is faulty on the scan

Travel West Midlands is a no, and the Stagecoach Sheffield Super tram issue tickets to bus pass holders with English ones and the London Freedom pass
A local operator doing a link between Brackley and Buckingham have started to do it as Bucks CC are reviewing services that they subsidise

The only time we get a ticket on our buses is when the scanner isn’t working.

We always get a ticket in the Glasgow area, no matter what company we use. We always have to scan the pass.

No ticket in Bedford

No ticket here. Just place the card on the scanner and wait for the beep.

No tickets in London

That explains it - thanks Pitt. I had assumed it was for a set distance the same as ordinary fares. I suppose it should even out, but they’re cutting services here too on the excuse of too many wrinklies using it.

We don't have a ticket issued here (though I don't have my pass yet - have to wait til I'm 60 next year )

Always issued with a ticket, but I do know that all journeys are recorded on computer, because when I lost my pass and rang up to ask why it would take 28 days to replace it, the woman looked me up and said "Oh you do use it a lot!".

We are issued with a ticket. Our route is served by two different companies. While we were in London recently we didn't get a ticket. We didn't even have to put our passes on the scanner. The driver's just gave the passes a fleeting glance.

MiniMoon, nice to hear above, the greater London council get a far bigger budget than most county councils in the country overall as to public transport.
Some of that money could be put towards rural subsides bus routes everywhere in UK and NI.
