Consessionary Bus Travel

No tickets here in the West Mids but when we have used our passes in other parts of the country, we have been issued with tickets.

I wonder how they register your trip then MiniMoon? Our service into Norwich has been cut from one every 20 minutes to two an hour - except the two come within ten minutes of each other. And it’s a well used service.

All bus companies (including Go Ahead Northern haha) in this part of the NE, issue tickets. I often think think it's a waste of money. I visited a friend in Portsmouth recently and they aren't issued with tickets.

Sometimes we are issued with a ticket and sometimes not, with the same bus company!

Will take your advice Michael.Thanks for the suggestion.Last year Reading buses added a new route to Bracknell with the new shopping centre opening there.It goes the country route but still does not nclude us.

Use the above as to the fact your nearest bus stop is 4 miles away, Greenfinch, or contact Campaign for Better Transport.
I have written to my MP as to a missing bus link towards Bicester , as with new housing in the town many have moved from Bicester ,and still work there due to cheaper housing than in Oxfordshire , mind you Oxfordshire County Council cut 180 bus routes last year.

We have to drive four miles to our nearest bus stop since a local bus company went bankrupt twenty years ago.It is OK while we can still drive but after that we would be in difficulty.

This might give you a picture as to bus matters , I am involved with bus users UK, and get involved with Campaign for better transport , but this is interesting if you want to make an opinion about bus services .

Cold What you say may be off the point but nevertheless it's a very good point. Where my mum lives, the bus service has been reduced and I've heard of areas where there is now no bus service.

From the Campaign for Better Transport:

"The loss of a bus service has huge implications. It can cut people off from jobs and education, damage local shops and businesses, affect people's physical health and mental wellbeing and increase congestion, air pollution and climate change as more cars jam up our roads.

"In 2018 we made Freedom of Information requests to all 110 local transport authorities across England and Wales to get a full picture of recent bus cuts. The findings are deeply concerning. Funding for supported buses has been halved in the last eight years, leaving many places without public transport.

"Local authority bus budgets in England and Wales were cut by £20.5 million in just the last year - the eighth year in a row budgets have been cut."

People jeered about Corbyn raising this matter but, for the elderly, young people and people who can't afford a car this is a major issue.

Ticket in Lincolnshire

In he areas where I've used my bus pass - London, Essex, Suffolk and, I think, Sussex - I just press the pass against the scan screen - no ticket issued.

I never got a ticket when we had an hourly service. Now we have hardly any buses and the few we do have take such a roundabout route that a 5 minute journey now takes over 20 minutes and we have to wait hours to return so I don't bother anymore. The pleasures of semi rural living!

MiniMoon, nice to hear above, the greater London council get a far bigger budget than most county councils in the country overall as to public transport.
Some of that money could be put towards rural subsides bus routes everywhere in UK and NI.

We are issued with a ticket. Our route is served by two different companies. While we were in London recently we didn't get a ticket. We didn't even have to put our passes on the scanner. The driver's just gave the passes a fleeting glance.

Always issued with a ticket, but I do know that all journeys are recorded on computer, because when I lost my pass and rang up to ask why it would take 28 days to replace it, the woman looked me up and said "Oh you do use it a lot!".

We don't have a ticket issued here (though I don't have my pass yet - have to wait til I'm 60 next year )

That explains it - thanks Pitt. I had assumed it was for a set distance the same as ordinary fares. I suppose it should even out, but they’re cutting services here too on the excuse of too many wrinklies using it.

No tickets in London

No ticket here. Just place the card on the scanner and wait for the beep.

No ticket in Bedford

We always get a ticket in the Glasgow area, no matter what company we use. We always have to scan the pass.

The only time we get a ticket on our buses is when the scanner isn’t working.
