Birds and fun

Lovely! That would make my day too.

I love to watch them - we have been honoured by goldfinches visiting our bird bath recently, so perhaps they are struggling to find water. We don’t normally see “posh” birds, only our lovely resident sparrows, who love a bath. They also love to dust bathe in the dry earth around the plum tree.

A few years ago whilst visiting my in laws, we watched the antics of about 10 sparrows forming an orderly queue whilst waiting to have a bath. They were on the garage roof and there must have been a puddle of water in the guttering. Not enough room to all hop in together so they waited patiently for an opportunity to take a dip.
Made me smile.?

I love watching the birds round here. A little collared dove has been seeing off the magpies, attacking them vigorously in David and Goliath fashion. The bird population is feeding avidly again and obviously needing the water too as the bowl is drained dry every day. There is a woodpecker on the feeder daily and a pair of pheasants scold me if their food supply runs low. I don't care if it does cost me a fortune for bird food--- they are worth every penny.

aren't they wonderful.am on porch watching 3cattle egrets and a whooping crane ,pesticide on 2 legs,edger,allan and poe like popcorn,too.
the little one is a carolina wren.she is tiny and has the biggest voice.
this is a regular morning ,so yes blessed.

also have a piliated woodpecker who comes and cleans up things.can never get a pic of him tho.

Last week on a walk in Essex Wildlife Trust territory I was lucky enough to see a cuckoo for the very first time. She was a female hepatic.We sat in a hide overlooking a freshwater pond by a wood where she sat peacefully in a dead tree for a good 15 minutes.It made my day!

We watched a crow recently deposit some hard crust into a water laden gutter. It allowed the bread to soften and then tucked in. Lovely to see.

Yes, definitely worth keeping the feeders & birdbaths topped up...lovely to hear about people's birds, & fab pics mimiro!

I love to see the birds in my bird bath. The larger birds (rooks, magpies etc) pick up bits of bread and dunk them in the water before eating them (clever birds), so I empty and refill it every day now.

Greyduster I've also had goldfinches this year - first time I've ever seen them in my small garden. They are lovely. I've left some dandelions for them, though, as DD points out, they can probably get the seeds almost anywhere.

When I put food out in the morning, one of my two crows is waiting up in the trees and goes "KAARK". I'm sure it's a "Grubs up, lads" signal because all the different birds swoop down and demolish the lot. Before he shouts, there's not a sign of any of them!
