On nights when I have found it hard to get to sleep, the comforting tone of the Shipping Forecast reminds me that there are those whose lives may be in danger on the high seas.
And then there is this....shut your eyes and enjoy!

I have loved listening to the shipping forecast when I was a child. I used to be able to recite them in order most of the time. If I got them all right my dad would give me sixpence! I still like to recite them now but wouldn't earn that many sixpences! Some have changed and some have disappeared.

I adore 'Sailing By' which always precedes the late night version.
A lovely lullaby for the sleepless.

I do too but am unable to hear it without the tears flowing as I am reminded so vividly of the nights I lay awake during Paw’s last weeks in hospital and after he died sad

Sailing By was my lullaby in the weeks after my father died and still lulls me to sleep.

Maw, I love it but miss getting out of bed every night to look across the road to my parents house to see if my father who was in constant pain had managed to get off to sleep, did this for years so it makes me sad too when I hear it.

I remember listening to the shipping forecast when I was a child. I loved that version Maw, I had a good laugh, much needed as I've suffered from a migraine all day.
