feeling depressed

After reading many of the posts on gransnet this afternoon i am feeling depressed.
Problems with DIL's, not being allowed to see GC, the little boy who cares for his dad, sons and daughters not contacting mums and dads, issues in the wider family radiating out to encompass others, what a world we live in or is this not the norm?
It is so heartbreaking how cruel people can be to one and other.

The woman deliberately running over the ducklings news story this morning made me despair!

Doodle Fri 01-Jun-18 17:00:31

Oh goodness I hadn't seen that.?

I despair of the world we seem to have now too. Having said that, DH and I have been out for a walk this afternoon and had lots of smiles and a few chats with total strangers. I smile at everyone I make eye contact with some probably think I'm not all there grin Most of the time even the most sour looking of people smile back and what a difference it makes to people's faces when they do.?

Doodle - One of the lovely things about having dogs is that other dog owners I mate or just people outside in the countryside are usually friendly as opposed to walking through the High Street where most are scurrying along oblivious to everyone else.

You "mate" with other dog owners!? Any of them or are you a bit choosy?! shock

SueDonim Fri 01-Jun-18 17:58:26

Travelsafar do you want to be cheered up? If so, read on! smile

I'm currently at my dd's house, which she and her Dh and 6mo baby moved into on Wednesday, her birthday. Since yesterday, I've scrubbed her gigantic range hob (seven gas burners!!), swabbed the worktops, emptied boxes, been to the supermarket (twice), steam-cleaned floors in 26deg temperatures, soothed the baby, fed the baby, taken the baby for a walk, been soaked in a thunderstorm, found time for Dd to open presents and have cake and am now in sole charge of charge of the baby until her daddy comes home later this evening while Dd and her sister have gone out to a long-ago arranged concert. I don't know when I last enjoyed myself so much! smile smile smile

That's my idea of a perfect day.

Just seen the ducklings news report - that is just sick; and enough to make anyone depressed.

It’s the way the world wags travelsafar, happiness and sorrow, highs and lows, cruelty and kindness .

Think on good happenings x

ginny Fri 01-Jun-18 18:40:46

I’m still convinced that there is much more good in the world than bad. Problem is it’s mainly the bad that gets reported.

Think of all the good threads. DiL's who love their Mil - and vice versa. Grandmothers over the moon with the birth of a new baby

I think the problem is, those in need on GN reach out for help and get it, but that has the reverse effect on those whose life is going splendidly, you try not to say anything about it in case you sound triumphalist and insensitive to all those in trouble.

Perhaps we should have an agreement that people, who are over the moon over something can post it so that others can share their delight and there is an agreement that others do not rain on their parade.

Monica I'm on a forum where people try and post positive things every day. They post three things they've achieved and three things that made them happy each day. It can be v minor, like having achieved brushing the cat or returning overdue library books. The happy things can be as simple as seeing the sun after days of rain or hearing a child laughing.

Maybe GN needs a thread like that?

BlueBelle Sat 02-Jun-18 15:22:50

Sue start one
I m still laughing at the mating dog owners ???

Willow500 Sat 02-Jun-18 18:32:00

This made me laugh today. I called my husband in for his tea earlier - a few minutes later he came in and said he'd put his slippers on the wrong feet and found himself in the hall before he managed to get back to the kitchen - he is an idiot at times grin

jenpax Sat 02-Jun-18 18:52:04

Belgravian ??

minesaprosecco Sat 02-Jun-18 19:25:17

I'm going start the three good things thread rather than hijack this one!

minesaprosecco Sat 02-Jun-18 19:25:42

*To start, fat finger typing

minesaprosecco Sat 02-Jun-18 19:28:06

Can't remember how to start a thread! Might take a while.

Where is the cheery three things community please

Nelliemoser Mon 04-Jun-18 08:10:17

I had been feeling run down for a while, but feeling better.
I was sitting on the garden bench in the sunshine drinking my cup of tea just before eight and I saw the beautiful Jay flying across the garden, I had not seen him for some time. That was a lovely moment.

Nicenanny3 Mon 04-Jun-18 12:29:53

It certainly cheers you up sitting in the garden listening and watching the birds. I think from past experience when you look back at things in the past you realise how happy you were but didn't appreciate you were at the time. I have changed my attitude to being happy I was fed up and bored with everything a few months ago then a few upsetting things happened and that made me realise what I had before and took for granted, things have got better again so I have changed my outlook on life and am trying to appreciate when I am happy and try and make the most of life as it is and keep busy and try not to moan ?

The bad part of my life - broken hip and walking frame.
The good part - DGD had a lovely 18th birthday weekend and is looking after me and making lunch.
My whole family have rallied round. Seen to occupational therapist visit, transported me safely home, shopping, cooking. The visit to the practice nurse is organised and friendly local plumber booked to visit and help with planning the new bathroom (wish I 'd done that 6 months ago!)
I am very glad to have them.

Bluegal Mon 04-Jun-18 20:38:58

I agree whoever said the best therapy is walking a dog. I’ve met so many lovely people since getting my dog. Doesn’t matter how bad the news is. He is always happy! I have met lots of other dog minded people on walks but even being just with him especially on a lovely spring morning early lifts my spirits.
