I hear thunder

Oh dear
Why did it have to start at 2 a.m.?
Not a happy Hattie although less frantic than Gracie used to be, but nevertheless she is wide awake and panting , a sure sign of fear. It must be the decibels of the thunder although we now also have radio2 blaring away in the kitchen.
(Thank goodness we didn’t have this last weekend when I had 3 DGC overnight ?)
Sitting here with a brew but it could be a long night sad

Yes, dogs woke me up. Rescue dog terrified. I’m currently having a cup of tea too with all three on the bed, one shaking so badly the whole bed is shaking with him.

Not seen an electric storm like this for years. Continuous lightening and thunder. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Isn’t it heart breaking old Meg? There’s no way we can reassure them other than by beingbwith them.
Hattie has only experienced thunder here once before and she was fine, but this is something else.
I can recommend Radio 2 a the moment - lots of “golden oldies”, by the way, but the thunderstorms are forecast to go on all day.

Oh no! It’s passed here for the moment and had hoped that was that. Seems like all t’other grannies have slept through it. Must have left their hearing aids off ?

It is hard when you can’t explain to them that they are safe and if will pass. This does not bode well for firework season.

It was very loud here about 2.16am with many flashes of lightening and the sound of pouring rain. I was in the garden at 5.30 this morning surveying the plant damage and it it is slight considering how heay the rain was, the slugs and snails are out in full force!!!!!

J52 Sun 27-May-18 06:57:54

It was 3.30 here, but I think I slept through most of it. DH didn’t hear it at all ( nor the No 13 bus that went through the bedroom! grin!
Brilliant sunshine now.

I have never seen such lightening before it was continuous for over an hour here in London and the thunder was just also just a continuous long rumble and crashing, Mother Nature at her most awesome. My Mum bless her would of been in her usual place, the cupboard under the stairs. ?

Our night was disturbed in yet another way...........though we do believe it may well have been the violent thunderstorm many of you mentioned that caused our darn smoke alarm to let scream its piercing "ping" .......not once but on three seperate occasions last night.
My husband whom has hearing problems still heard the din!
On going back to sleep, eventually, we then get awakened by the loudest heaviest rain fall ever!

One blessing being that, sad though it is for us both,we no longer have our darling dogs that certainly would have been frightened out of their minds.

The cheek of it.............beautifully sunny sunshine now again.

Totally missed us.....
Although they forecast rain and storms, zilch, nada.

Pittcity Sun 27-May-18 08:34:40

Loud thunder here in Colchester but I didn't open my eyes to check the time or open the curtains.....wish I had because the photos are spectacular ⚡

Auntieflo Sun 27-May-18 08:38:02

We are in West Berks, but didn't hear anything. Where were all the thunder storms? Perhaps we were so tired after coming back from holiday. Hope everyone is OK and no damage suffered.

Greenfinch Sun 27-May-18 08:50:31

We had some lightning and a few quiet rumbles at 10pmAuntieflo but not enough to bring the cat in when we called him. Our night was disturbed by a car alarm going off twice. Don't know whether that had anything to do with the weather.confused

merlotgran Sun 27-May-18 08:54:24

I slept like a log so I don't think we had it in Cambridgeshire. The dogs would have woken me up I'm sure.

Feeling lucky because I needed that sleep.

Here in Dorset he thunder and rain started around 7 yesterday evening, an hour or so after we got back from family bbq so well timed. We didn't see any of the lightning though. Carried on for a while and then it was just the rain, that has just stopped again now and the sun is shining - looking at the sky it probably won't be for long.

DanniRae Sun 27-May-18 09:10:16

My husband came up to bed with the dog under his arm and said "The poor dog is terrified of the thunder, I'll sleep in the spare room with her". I was barely awake so I agreed and turned over and went back to sleep. BTW they are still up there now! (Dog has been out for a wee and went back up.)

Witzend Sun 27-May-18 09:19:27

We no longer have a dog to be frightened by storms. Personally I love lying in bed with a window open, listening to thunder and pelting rain! We had almost continuous lightning here. Garden has had a good drink and smells lovely this morning.

ninathenana Sun 27-May-18 09:27:21

It must have moved up from South East as friends had it 10pm and it started here in N Kent about midnight. We had continuous lightening flashes but only one or two rumbles and very little rain.

Teetime Sun 27-May-18 09:31:08

Apparently coming here to the East Midlands this afternoon.

Grannybags Sun 27-May-18 10:23:50

Just arrived here near Bristol. VERY loud and the rain is almost as noisy!

hildajenniJ Sun 27-May-18 12:56:13

Quiet night, and a beautiful day in Northumberland. This is the place to be.??

J52 Sun 27-May-18 17:43:49

Teetime, it was in Leicestershire at 3.30 am. Looks like you could be in for round two!

Moneyboss Sun 27-May-18 17:48:11

No sign of it in Lancashire. We've no pets so not a worry, but feel for all your pets that have been upset overnight.

Cherrytree59 Sun 27-May-18 17:54:14

Had lovely sunny day in Derbyshire with our 2 little grandsons.
Left at 3pm and had only a few drops rain on way home.
Congratulated ourselves on how fortune we were with the weather.
Arrived back home to flooded garage!shock

Cherrytree59 Sun 27-May-18 17:54:54

Fortunate!

Has been continuously thundering here in Birmingham for about the last 3 hours. Some torrential rain too.
