Insincere apologies

This could be a long post as I'm hopping mad!!

Early in April I ordered, on line, a 'Bistro Set' from a fairly well known garden centre. As we have a loyalty card we got 10% discount which made it an even more attractive.

Delivery was arranged for a convenient time approx 2 weeks later and, in the meantime, my card was debited.

The day before delivery we had a very nice phone call expressing apologies and saying that the delivery had to be cancelled because of problems with the computer system at the warehouse of the delivery company. They would ring ASAP to rebook.

Then we had summer (!!!) so we looked at going to the garden centre to actually buy one and bring it home in the car. We discovered that the price had been reduced by £40 - with 10% discount for loyalty card holders. And, they were not available to buy there and then.

About a week later, the Garden Centre rang to say that they were terribly sorry but the delivery company had gone bankrupt and they were arranging a replacement asap.

I complained about the fact that they had taken our money and the price had gone down. They were terribly sorry and promised to ring after delivery to let us know what they could do to 'compensate' us

Another delivery date was arranged and apart from the delivery being 2 hours late, was fine.

When we unpacked the blessed Bistro Set the zip on one of the cushions was broken. Never mind, I though, as that nice girl was going to ring me to talk about our experience and compensate us.

Did she heck as like!!

So I rang them. They were so sorry I had had a poor experience (probably 5 times!) and promised to get someone to ring me.

Approx an hour later, I got a very poorly written email expressing how sorry they were about my cushion and asking me to send photos.

By this time I was ready to explode! I rang the number on the email to be told, again, how sorry the company were about my poor experience and that they would investigate and get back to me.

Still waiting!!

So, I am (sincerely!!) sorry to have bored you - but I feel better getting that off my chest!!

It must be a garden centre thing Kitty.
Last year I went to one of our local ones and spent a not inconsiderable sum of money on plants.
As I waited at the check-out, the assistant whose name appeared to be Susan conducted a conversation with her colleagues on the neighbouring checkouts, and the only other customer in the place (who I suspected of also being an employee). She didn't even make eye-contact with me, let alone apologise for keeping me waiting.
When I got home I sent a fairly polite email to their customer services, enumerating Susan's faults and deficiencies.
The reply I got back stated merely that Susan had been employed by them for a long time and was one of their most valued members of staffshock
Needless to say from then on I have taken my custom elsewhere!

KittyL once they have your cash, they are happy. I wonder why they can't wait until your purchase is at the point of despatch, before debiting your card? But I agree, so annoying. (And breathe).

It's a Curry's thing too, kitty
I ordered two items online, one was delivered and one not - although they had taken money for both (quite expensive) items.
Everyone I contacted said that my delivery was 'complete'. No-one would listen and I got nowhere so I went into a large store some distance away and refused to leave until someone had sorted this for me - it took him one and a half hours to find out that the item was out of stock, and another couple of weeks before I got a refund.

Oh no jalima!
We’re supposed to be getting a new fridge delivered from Curry’s tomorrowshock

paddyann Wed 02-May-18 15:42:46

at a local garden centre we were told we couldn't take the wire basket with all our purchases out to our car.....We asked if she thought we would steal it and she said "well people have " wish she'd said that before we spent our money !

Find the name and contact details of the M.D. kitty, a strongly worded email or an old fashioned letter should do the trick as well as making you feel better. I suggest you list the issues and tell them what compensation you believe is appropriate. If it helps I’d be levitating at the level of disservice you have experienced.

kittylester Wed 02-May-18 15:54:23

If they don't call today then that is what I intend, corner.

Actually, don't tell them I said so, but the table and chairs are lovely and just fit a corner of the 'top' patio!!

Nevertheless!!!

Jalima1108 Wed 02-May-18 16:09:48

I'm sure it will be fine janea - as long as you've only ordered one item at a time.
Ordering more than one item is too much for them to cope with.

Teetime Wed 02-May-18 16:13:48

Give them hell kittylester go to the top and demand compensation for your distress!!! Hope the weather improves enough to use them soon.

kittylester Wed 02-May-18 16:25:29

That's part of the reason why I was upset. We had summer while they were in limbo!

Panache Wed 02-May-18 17:24:17

I can feel your fur flying from here and believe me Kittylester I totally understand and feel for you.
These firms most often do not deserve our custom and if there should be a delay or something amiss due to their fault, an apology would help, and by that I mean a sincere meaningful one plus a reinbursement....................Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Blinko Wed 02-May-18 17:43:35

And they wonder why people prefer to shop online.....

kittylester Wed 02-May-18 19:03:14

I did shop on line!

Today's customer service girl promised a call back before the end of play today. We didn't get one.

I bet they apologise profusely tomorrow.

I had the opposite response from Tesco direct. They forgot to order the collection of my old freezer when they delivered the new one. Their courier subcontracted the job out making communication complicated. However they rung me three times to update me and then again to check the collection had happened and gave me back my £15. Their error but great customer service.

Gerispringer Thu 03-May-18 05:43:34

If they’re on facebook or Twitter - complain on there. I bet you get a quick response there. Worked for me and Ikea.

I have no car so have goods, such as garden compost, delivered. Last year Wilkinson delivered a maximum of 3 bags of each type of the larger bags of compost. This year the maximum is one bag per individual type! I imagine other customers without the use of a car are also going to lose out. Actually, I think it will be Wilkinson who lose out in the end!

CaroleAnne Thu 03-May-18 09:34:27

What about us all getting together en masse as a group and confront these reprobate sales people. It might help and they might think twice about customer care in future.

inishowen Thu 03-May-18 09:36:38

We've had big problems with TalkTalk. I believe their call centre is in India, so communications are difficult. We can't understand their accents and they can't understand ours. We are no further on with our problem three months down the line. They tell lies to get us off the line, make promises to phone back. They are useless.

SaraC Thu 03-May-18 09:37:27

Do you think it was perhaps ‘Susan’ who had replied to your email? I’d have been tempted to go in, in person, with a written complaint....

Joyfully Thu 03-May-18 09:39:25

Write to them stating that if you do not hear from them regarding delivery you will action an online claim to seek money returned plus expenses. That you also have posted on Trustpilot about the dreadful service. I have used this tactic and had immediate reply. Remember to pay for letter to be tracked in case they say they did not receive. Log how many calls you have made etc. Costs around £25 to make an online court claim but you will get it back.

kittylester Thu 03-May-18 09:51:19

We had the delivery - eventually!

It could easily have been Susan who replied grin.

Jang Thu 03-May-18 09:51:24

Go on Twitter and "lampoon" them it has worked for me, with many suppliers/issues in the past- they hate getting bad reviews on there

RE rude/inattentive service staff - I hate that - GRRR. Also often notice at garden centres the bill is often wrong, reduced items not at right price and been charged too much I now stand and check before I leave -much to there annoyance!

GrannyBettie Thu 03-May-18 09:51:50

Like Tizliz I had the opposite from Wayfair. I ordered a tv cabinet which arrived damaged (sadly the delivery man had gone). I immediately emailed them and they offered to pick it up and replace within a very short time. As it wouldn't happen overnight I then put back TV, Virgin Box, DVD (all leads fit through the hole at the back) so we could watch TV that night. As it was a palaver to do, I emailed Wayfair and asked if would they offer me compensation rather than take it back, which they did. Happy customer and would certainly buy from them again.

rentawitch Thu 03-May-18 09:52:38

If anyone has to tweet about this sort of thing, let us know o here so we can all retweet and get it trending! They hate that!
