You should always wear shoes at an interview.

TV hosts often joke about what they are wearing behind the desk.......

When I went for interview at my last job one of the panel mentioned that I was wearing black tights. ( negativity) . I did get the job .

I’m afraid that the ludicrousness (is that a word?) of knowing I was wearing bunny slippers while I was trying my best to be professional in an interview situation would send me into terrible fits of giggles and I could kiss goodbye to the prospect of getting any job. She did the right thing by changing her shoes, whether anyone saw them or not.

It also brings to mind, back in my working days, a morning when I was too lazy to properly iron my blouse. You could only see the collar and sleeves once I had my thick wool tank top on, so I ironed the essentials and headed off to work. It turned out to be unseasonably warm that day, coupled with the fact we were unable to turn the heating off, the office was absolutely roasting. I was forced to spend the day sweaty and uncomfortable. I’ve always properly ironed my clothes ever since!

Reminds me of the day of my brothers funeral, an hour into the journey, DD1 suddenly shrieks that she still has her slippers on, they were black velvet,but we had to pull the green Pom poms off on the way down. After the fiasco that was the funeral, in the end it was the very last thing that anyone worried about.

A friend of mine went for a TV company "board" interview years ago, dressed comfortably and casually as he would for the work required, which was physical and practical.
The candidate before him was very smartly dressed in suit and tie, but visibly quaking at the thought of the board which could be anything from three to five people (in those days) all thinking up the next question while the hapless interviewee was answering the last.
The smart candidate was so nervous, he threw up 30 seconds into his interview and there was a pause while it was all cleared up... adding to my friend's nervousness and that of the other candidates - even the smart ones.
When my friend was invited through, he found the board members seated in a semicircle and a swivel chair for him in the centre of a damp patch of hastily-scrubbed carpet.
From the get-go, he was assailed by the joint odours of sick and disinfectant. He tried to keep calm but he was quite short and the swivel chair had been set too high, so only his toes reached the ground.
Unconsciously, he began swinging from side to side, which made sense in view of how the panel were seated.
The inverviewers were anxious not to lose another person to nerves so they were a bit jokey and my friend laughed so much his toes lifted while he was in full outward swing and he spun right round twice before having the sense to apply his feet as breaks.
They all laughed so much there were puzzled looks from the waiting suits-and-ties on the other side of the door as he left.
He got the job.
