The good things about retirement

That does look lovely, and it was a really fab day today to enjoy the view.
The best thing about retirement is the ‘let’s just do it factor’

Absolutely! I went for a spur of the moment walk with my DGD this afternoon. Now we are staying up late having a movie night.

That really is THE best thing about retirement - spontaneity! Being able to do just as you please, go out on the spur of the moment, just because the sun is shining.
Or sitting up in bed till the early hours to finish a real page-turner of a book. Then the next day nodding off in the afternoon because you can

Oh yes, such freedom! With profound apologies to all those who don't have that freedom for whatever reason, work, finances, health, caring.

Being able to go back to bed with a cup of tea and a good book, instead of fighting my way to work through ‘rush’ hour traffic.

Listening to my neighbours scraping their cars on a frosty morning ?

I love the fact that although i go out every morning, not to early , its to do something i enjoy or to meet up with people i love or care about. Retirement is the best thing ever. Its the time of your life when you have a choice.

Not having to ask for days off and holidays, being dependent on whoever was already off on the work rota. Not having to struggle to work in horrible weather. Not having to listen to management speak jargon. Freedom!

You all make it sound wonderful!

Having a regular reliable income, without any fears of redundancy.

Turning over in bed and sleeping in, if I am tired.

Sorry Poppyred. It's rough to hear this if you're still working but it's hopefully something to look forward to.

All of the above! I love just being able to do our own thing whenever the mood takes us. Although I'm aching today recovering from DGD1 sleepover!

Time.

Time to enjoy the small stuff and small people.

Time to sit and smell the roses , read a book, craft or just sit.

No set time to get up , no early nights because of work the next day.

Its funny how with all this time in retirement it just flies by :-)

Monday mornings - ANY morning actually!
Enjoying Sunday afternoon without having Monday morning hanging over you. (As a teacher, I appreciate not spending Saturday on domestic stuff and Sunday on marking/preparation.)

Flexibility to actually LIVE [ smile]

Not having to deal with complex work politics, stress and worry and a horrible sense of impending doom all the time.

I echo that sentiment Nana&G. I looked forward to having time for all the hobbies I love...... but seriously, I still don't seem to have enough time for them!

It’s a long time since I retired, but one thing I really enjoyed was the freedom to be ill in peace. If I got a rotten cold or a bad headache I didn’t have to agonise about whether to struggle on with work or not. I could just be self-indulgent at home with nothing on my conscience.

I wish I could have done it when I left school, theirs so much to do so much to see the only drawback is your age, we tend to have an afternoon nap so as we can stop up late and then go to bed at 10 o'clock and we are in our 70's

Used to be a sandwich on the run, if that some days.

Talking to a retired friend this morning who had just been to hospital, he was asked if he was still in paid work and said 'yes' on automatic pilot!

I love retirement and feel sorry for future generations who have to work until they are much older. It's the freedom from routine, the release from the grindstone, having to 'obey' bosses. It's all wonderful! I sometimes take off and simply drive somewhere I've never been, or somewhere I simply love visiting, just like you minesaprosecco
