Why is it so difficult?

Oh please don’t tell me this, we’re thinking of getting a new one. Dd1 says no we’re upgrading you can have ours...lovely offer, but I know how it’ll end! They will rush in with a fancy tv, do magic things and drive off again, leaving us none the wiser. Good luck Jane10, hope the man sorts it out.

If I didn't have DH i would have to get a company in to do it for me. We have 4 changer thingys - heaven knows what they do.

Please someone send me back my old TV than doesn't loose the signal when we have adverse weather all this new technology drives me mad sometimes.

It was my DH who got us into this mess!
The new TV looks lovely. Picture is beautiful if only it had some channels or could connect to the Youview box. We have miles of different cables and types of connector but no actual functioning connection!! Argh.

I agree took OH ages to set our ‘smart tv’ up I could not of done it I’d have to call one of my grandsons they seem to know all the short cuts and it seems a lot of the steps in the instructions are unnecessary or so they tell me.

I’m the one who has to set things like this up in our house. DH doesn’t have a clue where to stick the various cables....though I could give him a few suggestions....or how to connect the WiFi.

I wish I had been the one with the remote trying to do the set up. By the time DH had done his best we were in real trouble and couldn't see how to undo all the things he'd done. I'd set up the old TV and Youview box and all had gone well. I'd done it while he was out!!

There are so many leads to connect at the back as well. When we changed our cabinet I took photos of the back of the TV with all the leads in place and also put sticky labels on each one detailing where they went.

You would think someone would come up with a totally wireless tv. I'm sure it must be possible. Bliss!

Cables - the bane of my life! What with the tv, blue ray player, dvd, satellite box and surround sound as well as all the remotes you definitely need a degree in something! I had to try and sort out an issue with the back up device on the pc yesterday so had to pull everything out - it's a nightmare of spaghetti behind there as well not to mention dust I'm looking at it now as I didn't manage to push it all back behind the desk

I remember getting my parents a new tv when their old one gave up the ghost - my dad was convinced it had valves in it and used to spray it with WD40 . The new one was just too complicated for them to work out - we wrote the instructions down but by the time my mum had read the first few lines she'd forgotten them so they were both very frustrated and we constantly had to go round and reset it all. Thankfully they only lived round the corner. Good luck with your new one - sure it'll be great - when you figure out how it works

Oh, I sympathise with anyone having trouble with modern TVs! We look after our DGC at two houses. DD2 has Sky and two very posh sets with four controls, DS has Virgin and just the one set, with two controls. If we ever manage to see anything we want, it's more by good luck than management, we've just given up on playing the dvds we bought for the DGS, and just count ourselves lucky the lads keep us too busy to see much anyway! It all looks so simple when the DC show us what to do (frequently).

Oh - don't start me on this one!

My OH's hobby has always been electronics and he is always darned well fiddling with the TV set-up and the sound system so that I sometimes finish up not being able to watch TV or listen to a CD, because he has changed something around. It drives me NUTS!!!!!

He often puts the TV sound through a batch of speakers, and I go to switch the TV on, but can't get any sound from it.

It has all become more problematical now because sometimes when he is tinkering he cannot remember what to do, or how to get it back as it should be!!!

I feel your pain!! We have a sound bar (for what it's worth!!) and it won't work from where I sit so I have to ask DH to turn it up or down. It turns itself off if you try to blue tooth anything to it or if you have the DVD player on.

We are so fed up with it that DH is threatening to buy another one - help!!

If only it was that easy BlueBelle. The instructions assume an understanding of the terminology used. If you don't understand the jargon you can't make the right selections.

DH is the 'expert', well he must be because he worked in IT all his working life so he must know it all mustn't he?
That would be the reason that when we are sitting next to each other on the sofa the controls are not in the middle but on his side. Must be that because he is the 'expert'. Of course as the 'expert' he knows how to look and see what is on other channels and how it needs about 5 button presses to get there. I am no 'expert' so that must be the reason it only takes me two button presses to change to the chosen channel.

He still can't record one programme while watching another!

I am on a hiding to nothing - two boxes and I don’t know how to work either of them, and to add to that, our tv is now rigged up for GS’s video game for the duration of his stay, which involved my SiL disconnecting some cables from the back of the tv - I just hope someone knows where they go back!!

Ah yes, I remember walking reluctantly into Currys or similar when our old TV broke. A salesman rushed up as we stated at the banks and banks of TVs. We're looking for a new TV, we said. 'What would you like to do with it?', he asked, and the answer wasn't 'watch tv'!!

We got help to set up from the shop and from our broadband supplier and now we use it to watch TV! How very old fashioned.

Why is it that people who work with computers, selling TVs etc assume we have a level of knowledge that we really don't.

DS did ours, he set up Netflix on it too which I know nothing about I can programme the Sky box though (DH can't) If anything goes wrong that I can't sort I shout for DS, fortunately he lives here.
We used to loose signal with the freeview box in certain weather conditions but not since DS had Sky installed.

My DD installed our TV. I however set up the Freesat box and signed in. We no longer have a DVD player as the old one wasn't compatible with the new television. We have a smart TV with Netflix and Amazon already installed. I signed up for those. I am the techy one in our house. DH doesn't have a clue.

Nonnie your husband is just like mine, drives me nuts! How does the male hand become so much better at pressing buttons than mine (not)!

I am currently ensconced at DDs until I pick GS and DH up from football. They are away. I dare not put the tv on as what usually appears on their screen bears absolutely no resemblance to anything I recognise! I shall be watching iPlayer tonight on my iPad.
