Unexpected result of the cold weather

Sounds like you need a couple of hotties in the bed for an hour or so before you go to bed

My DH also has one of these beds, he would also like a couple of hotties in his bed.......

PS, these beds suck all the warmth out of you, horrid things.

We love ours - once it's warmed up! You are advised not to use hot water bottles or electric blankets with memory foam.

We had a memory foam mattress for ten years (changed recently to a wool and cashmere) and when we lived in N Yorks the bed was freezing until you warmed it up then it was lovely. We changed as my back seemed to be getting worse and i noticed a dip in my side so my spine although cosy and cocooned was in the wrong position. The bed is specially designed for bad backs apparently and its lovely. The memory foam was boiling in summer esp with hot flushes so I am hoping this one will be different. No waste though or old bed is now in the spare room and that bed went to Emmaeus.

I have had a memory foam mattress topper for 12 years. On top of it I have a fleecy underblanket which ensures that the bed is warm when I go to bed. I haven't noticed that the foam makes me unduly hot in summer - the underblanket can be reversed to have a smooth side. I find this a good combination, however, I need to buy a new mattress and am in two minds - memory foam, combination memory foam and pocket sprung or no foam. Also needs to be a good price.

I bought a new bed with a memory foam mattress a couple of years ago. First it was like sleeping on the top of a hill. I eventually turned it upside down for a few days (which they tell you not to do) and slept on the hard side. It worked although I should just have one it for one night.
It was still too hot so I looked on line and people were advising 100% cotton sheets and a cotton topper. These have made it variable and I am used to it now but I will replace it with a normal one when it has lived its life. It also says on the label turn it (as in swivel it so the top stays the same) every week which I really don't have the energy to do but it is better just after turning.
One thing it taught me is not just to read review sites but also google 'problems with ... ' and see how many people are saying the same thing.

Kittylester Why shouldn't you use a hot water bottle on memory foam mattresses? I use one during the winter, haven't notices any ill effects but should I be looking out for something?

We had a memory foam mattress which initially we loved. Sadly my husband’s Parkinson’s worsened and he found it almost impossible to turn over on it. I have since been advised that people with a disability should avoid the memory foam. We replaced it with a VERY firm mattress which was like sleeping on the floor, but suitable for him. When he died, I installed a memory foam topper which works well. I do use an electric blanket with it.

They say that hot water bottles and electric blankets make the foam warm and then it doesn’t mould to your body, DH has used both for years.
He seems over enthusiastic about having a couple of hotties though

Having a few back problems we have a medium firm mattress with a mattress topper, which seems to work well.
Have just changed the toppers for new ones, as over time, a dip does develop as another poster says.
Yes, it does make the bed warmer, which in Summer isn’t great, but cotton sheets do help.

friends of ours are having a new house built and they have had to strengthen the bedroom floor to take their waterbed, the wouldn’t be without it, they say it’s the best bed they have ever had.

We had a memory foam mattress and although I couldn't fault it for comfort, it was so horribly hot in the summer that it lasted for less than a year. We now have a king size mattress which is all natural fibres - wool and cotton - and cotton bedding with a down duvet and pillows. So much easier to sleep now.

O12, Really, really. Once adjusted to the firmness and temperature that suits then never a need to adjust. We had ours for 26 years without a single problem. The ability to rush in late on a freezing night and straight to bed without thought of electric blanket or hot water bottle is just the best. Absolutely wonderful. Really!

We once used an electric inflatable bed at my DDS house. In the middle of the night I (being heavier than my DH) found myself rolling onto the floor. I scrambled to my feet and heard poor DH calling for help. I managed to switch light on to find him being devoured by the bed. His whole body had disappear and all I could see was his horrified face. It looked for all the world that the mattress was giving birth to him. After I had composed myself...I plugged the thing back in and he rose like Lazerous. Story kept me in coffee for weeks.

I use a Tempur memory foam mattress with a quilted mattress protector and fitted sheet on, so I'm not in direct contact with the foam. I wouldn't be without it.
