Honestly! What would you do with some people!

My urologist advised me to drink only decaffeinated tea, so for the past year we have had two containers of tea in the cupboard, one for me, one for him. Despite my misgivings I was pleasantly surprised to find that I honestly could not tell the difference.
So with that in mind, I thought about suggesting DH switches to the decaf as well. Now if you knew my DH you would know that the suggestion would not be received in good humour. He is what you might call a bit fussy when it comes to what passes his lips. So.... without telling him, when I was making a brew I started using the decaf for him as well to see if there was a reaction. As I expected, he appeared not to notice. I kept this up for about two weeks, and then one day I said "why don't you switch to decaf too? It would make sense - and it really doesn't taste any different." But oh no, he knew he wouldn't like them, definitely not for him. So I then told him that he'd actually been drinking it for the past two weeks - had he honestly noticed any difference? No, he admitted, he hadn't and happily agreed to switch.
A couple of weeks later I found a pack of the ordinary stuff in the cupboard - he'd bought it because he "really didn't like the decaf tea" confused. I still make his using decaf now and then and he still doesn't notice.
Honestly! What would you do with him? grin

It’s all in the mind with decaff tea, because it really doesn’t taste any different. You won’t get a caffeine hit of course.
It’s like all the blind tastings prove, expensive isn’t always better.

Maybe hubby likes the caffeine hit and he should be allowed to if he wants to .
Don't try to force your views and tastes onto others or he just may do it to you with something he likes and you don't want to like.
It may have given him headaches with the caffeine withdrawal

Is your husband a bigamist?? I think we might be married to the same man!!

My hubby can dislike things he hasn't even tried, how about that then ?

Nanabilly I wasn't trying to force my views on him! I was merely trying to make life easier - not having to keep two teabag containers in the cupboard, not having to remember which cup is which, not having to remind the DC when they're here, if they make the tea to remember to use the right teabags.
And no, definitely no caffeine withdrawal - he also drinks about 3 or 4 cups a day of very strong coffee!
Sorry if the 'tongue in cheek' humour in my post didn't come across to you hmm

I also drink decaf tea & coffee, for years now. I think both are fine but on the odd occasion I get served an ordinary tea I find it tastes very strong, really horrible. Or maybe it's just that other people let it brew for ages? Don't find any difference in taste with coffee but gets the jitters if I have caffeinated ?

BlueBelle Fri 09-Feb-18 12:13:33

I ve never had a caffeine ‘hit’ from a cup of tea ?I agree it all tastes the same and keep on keeping on as he hasn’t complained it’s all in the mind
It’s a bit like the marmite advert where the little boy shouts ‘I hate it I hate it’ and his mum says ‘he’s never had it’
My son always said he hated lamb but if I told him it was beef he ate away without a word

DanniRae Fri 09-Feb-18 12:16:05

Bathsheba my husband would be EXACTLY the same. Bl**dy awkward I call him!

Bathsheba Fri 09-Feb-18 12:24:59

Haha Bluebelle - years ago my friend’s little boy wouldn’t eat peas so she told him they were green baked beans and he loved them ?

lol, never heard that one before Bathsheba.

My OH would never eat carrots when he lived at home, when I first got to know him I just put them on his plate when I dished up a meal - he ate them. It was a couple weeks until I met his mum for the first time and she was putting food on his plate, no carrots. Then the penny dropped, he hadn't liked to say anything lol. And yes he's eaten them ever since.
He also said (many years ago) that he didn't like garlic, and yep he'd been eating it for ages.

I sometimes cook soya mince or soya chunks in a stew as I am not a great meat eater. I make no comment and OH has not noticed yet! smile
