Going to bed

Do you enjoy going to bed? Having a nice early night?
I have never liked it, and tend to put it off till the last minute, finding silly things to do to put off the moment. I blame my mum!
My friend only likes early nights on non work days, so that she doesn't feel that she 'has' to go.

Same here! We're night owls now. I like the peace and quiet.

Eglantine21 Thu 01-Feb-18 23:20:39

Yup, that's why I'm on the sofa, on Gransnet, and the washing up is still in the kitchen. I hate going to bed!

MissAdventure Thu 01-Feb-18 23:21:55

I always worry I might be missing something, although years of experience tell me otherwise.

Eglantine21 Thu 01-Feb-18 23:29:08

I'm afraid of the hand that lurks under the bed to grab you, the burglar in the wardrobe ( who has obviously been there all evening waiting for me to go upstairs), the thing that might creep up the stairs and pop it's head round the door.......shock
I really sympathised with the thread where the granddaughter didn't want to go to bed!

I used to crawl exhausted to bed before 9 when working, now I put it off and never get to bed before twelve and usually later.

My sister used to frighten the life out of me with those kind of stories when I was a child.
I remember my friend coming to mine after working a late shift on a Saturday. I babysat her son, and when she got home we would watch 'Tales from the darkside' and eat goodies and drink tea.
One episode was about this horrible creature with long scratchy claws which lived in the wardrobe. She ended up having to stay the night!

I've washed up and made the camomile tea. I really am going to bed now......

Hop in quickly then, and don't let any body parts hang out of the bed during the night. smile

Yes, I love my bed.
H and I usually go to bed at 11pm. I'm nodding off in front of the TV by then and could sleep for a few hours but once I move upstairs I'm then wide awake and spend the next
2-3 hrs using my Kindle.

I put it off as long as possible, as I sleep so badly. I have become a night owl, when I used to be a lark.

MissAdventure Fri 02-Feb-18 00:04:21

Its only of late that I spend time in or on my bed. I used to hop out the second I woke up, and only go to bed when I wanted to sleep. Now I fetch supplies in with me, and a coffee. Maybe that's why I don't sleep well these days.

Nelliemoser Fri 02-Feb-18 00:12:17

I am still up, partly because I don't want to be awake in the early mornings when it is still dark..

jordana Fri 02-Feb-18 00:17:16

I went to bed at 10.30 and haven't slept a wink due to aching legs. Now up , on grans net and drinking Irish coffee

Love going to bed and often go early but so does my husband as he gets tired but don't go before he does. Hate getting up as I love a lie in but work means I have to be up at 7 which isn't bad but still hate it

M0nica Fri 02-Feb-18 06:27:14

Good morning, this lark was in bed by 10.30 and woke naturally at 5.30 and got up. I have been pottering quietly downstairs since then, getting so much done because all is quiet, that I decided I had time to look through Gransnet.

I quite enjoy the dark mornings, cosy and warm in my study with my radio and a large mug of coffee.

kittylester Fri 02-Feb-18 06:38:04

We have been up since 5.45 am. We wake up naturally after years of setting the clock to get a bit of peace and quiet before all the children erupted into our room.

I love my bed too and often go about 9.30 and read for an hour or so.

I love going to bed, it is so comfortable settling in with a hot water bottle behind my back. I usually go at around 10pm.
It’s the getting out of it in the morning that I dislike. I’m getting very lazy these days blush

Charleygirl Fri 02-Feb-18 08:05:03

I love going to bed where I can relax with a good book and read until midnight which I use as my cut off point.

I find that I am going to bed earlier and frequently find myself in bed before 10.30pm having had a shower and my hot water bottle is keeping my bed warm. My cat then joins me for cuddles.

I used to be a night owl but I am now up around 7am most mornings. This I think is because of work I was up very early every day and that is difficult to change. Also my cat rarely allows me to have a lie in without waking the neighbourhood with her screams.

I'm in bed just after 10pm most nights, and glad to get there. I usually read for half an hour or so and then go off to sleep quickly. Most nights have to get up to spend a penny around 2/3am and then get up about 6.30. Shower and a coffee to get the day going. I hate lying in bed once I'm awake.

gillybob Fri 02-Feb-18 08:15:18

I love my bed . I just wish I could sleep better when I’m in it . I find it easy to fall asleep in the chair but as soon as my head hits the pillow the sweats start and my mind races. It’s all downhill after that .

Christinefrance Fri 02-Feb-18 08:50:21

I like my bed too, I don't sleep very well but enjoy snuggling down with a good book. My dogs insist I get up at 8am to take them out.

Greyduster Fri 02-Feb-18 08:51:46

Eglantine you only need to worry about the burglar in the wardrobe if he’s trying on your clothes!! I used to get my father to look under the bed every night as a child. These days, we go to bed around ten and I play scrabble on my Nintendo for a while. I after lie awake for ages after lights out, so I might as well be up!

Maggiemaybe Fri 02-Feb-18 09:05:09

I love my bed once I’m in it, but I don’t like to miss out on anything interesting downstairs and hate the palaver of getting there - the pills, the teeth, the face, the creams - so put it off and don’t usually make it with my book till after midnight. No problem as I don’t have to get up early most days, though I do get told off by my MiFit.

I remember a ghost story that kept my hands firmly under the covers after lights out - someone reaching out for the clock or something and a ghostly hand taking theirs. And an opening episode of Luther where the baddie was under the bed. shock

harrigran Fri 02-Feb-18 09:12:15

I am better out of bed than in it, all the aches and pains get worse when lying down. Strange that I can sleep like a baby on the settee, even sitting up.
