Not wanting to hijack another thread, I find myself ruminating on this word. I can see it comes from hyperbole but my immediate thought on seeing it was a geometric term for an arc.
What is the word Im thinking of?

It is a mathematical term, so you're quite right, but maybe you're thinking of a parabola?

Hyperbolic has two meanings
1) an exaggerated statement

2) relating to the mathematical shape called a hyperbola

Whatever you were thinking of, I think you are there!
