My 91 year old mother, who is crippled with arthritis and was living alone with limited help, fell down the stairs off stair lift a few weeks ago and shattered her knee. Since then she has been in hospital but now they want her to move to a private Nursing Home which NHS will fund for a few weeks. She is totally bed bound and on opioids for the pain but her brain is still very active. Problem being the only places which have been offered have had horrendous CQC reports and only one that didn't was awful. We cannot afford private care and she is adamant that she will only go somewhere for a few weeks to recuperate, so selling her (modest) house doesn't come into it. I am losing sleep, and having panic attacks with the situation, and hospital have now said they will discharge her to wherever there is a bed whether I like it or not. I am shocked that the elderly can be sent to Private Nursing Homes which are clearly inadequate but funded by the NHS and I feel so sad and helpless. Hospital have told me to ignore CQC reports!
