That wet stuff that comes out of a tap for one.
First thing yesterday morning we discovered the water pressure was too low for the shower to work. Not unusual around here and things normally improve during the day so I was dismayed to find that when I got home from the weekly shop there was no water at all.....zilch!
Fortunately there was enough in the kettle for a much needed coffee and I settled down with the laptop to begin the frustrating process of trying to get some info from Anglian Water. According to their website they didn't even have the right village!
DD had earlier driven to the site of the massive leak (we know the supply route) and e-mailed them a photo with directions (smart girl) but they still insisted it was five miles away
A mother and father of all thunderstorms then decided to terrify the dogs but at least the deluge helped to begin re-filling the empty water butts - the chickens were grateful for that and DH announced that there was no need to ration our bottled water as he was quite happy to drink cider.
A full and smelly dishwasher and a machine full of unwashed laundry didn't improve my temper when they kept INSISTING our supply had been re-connected and they couldn't understand why we had no water.
Many phone calls later and a hot and sticky night made worse by not being able to shower before bedtime, I was woken by the welcome trickly sound of the loo cistern filling up. It was 5am so I celebrated with a long cool shower, a large mug of tea, an early visit to the chickens and the pressing of various buttons to get the washing and washing-up back on track.
The leak BTW is still gushing across the road and nobody from AW is fixing it so jugs and bowls have been filled.....just in case.
