Teenagers......What planet are they on?

This morning I was expecting a Sainsbury's delivery. When it didn't turn up I waited nearly an hour before phoning the helpline to find out where on earth it was.

I was told it had been left next door with my grandson. Yes, they live next door but why leave it there????

I trotted up the garden path and hammered on the back door. It was 11.30 so still the middle of the night for an eighteen year old. When I finally roused him he was pleased to tell me he'd got my delivery and he'd even remembered to put the frozen gateau in the freezer. hmm

So.....Instead of pointing the delivery driver in my direction (just a few yards down the drive) he moved their Christmas tree and all that sails in her away from the front door which they hardly ever use - that's why the Christmas tree had been put up in front of it. Using the kitchen door, of course, would of been a more sensible option but he didn't think of that.

Did he ring or message me to let me know where my shopping had turned up? Of course not. He went back to bed!!

He's a lovely lad, just home from Uni where he's studying politics and when he grows up he wants to join the Intelligence Service grin

One likes to imagine that he presumed you'd arranged (for reasons only you know) to have your delivery at his house so took it in thinking you would come to collect it at your convenience.
On second thoughts he's a teenage 'man' two disadvantages to sensible behaviour. grin

I must be thankful it wasn't his younger brother who hasn't broken up yet. He'd have been half way down the chocolate digestives. tchgrin

Sympathies merlot, mine came home today, after going to the train station at 7am and got on the train, only to be told off the guard that he shouldn't be on it and had to get on as his ticket was for the 12 noon train! Back to uni and a wait for the later train! These people are supposed to be intelligent! grin

Apparently they have a chart on their landing to see who gets the most "idiot" stickers, I do think my son is winning at the moment. I've just thought that I have to think of him as an alien, you know, like E.T., who comes to visit and then "phone home". At least now I know that he is only here for three weeks, I will get myself back to myself sooner than I know. And in the meantime, I will enjoy the alien. grin

I bet that if you told that story to any other teenager they would neither get what was so funny not would they see that he had done anything wrong.

I enjoyed it the tale, too, and can quite imagine it happening! And no harm was done really.

He probably thought it was some weird, incomprehensible arrangement made by adults (who knows how adults' brains work?!) and he did his best in the circumstances. grin

Yes,that was it FarNorth, bless his cotton socks.

Delivery drivers are not the brightest either. We waited in all day Tuesday for a delivery by parcel force, paid extra for named day delivery, never arrived. DH rang parcel force and they said it had been delivered and signed for four hours earlier hmm
We checked CCTV and saw van driver get out of van, looked straight at our front door and promptly walked across the road and left the parcel in a neighbours porch and signed his machine himself.

That cheered me up merlo , especially the bit about studying Politics ! he will make a fine MP if he can remember to put his trousers on . x

Jalima Thu 15-Dec-16 15:28:03

The delivery driver who came the other day seemed brighter than anyone else I had dealt with at the firm grin
I was so thankful that he, at least, knew what was going on!

That made me smile merlot, we are a teenager free zone in the family currently and this reminder of the way they operate made me laugh.

DS would often remember to tell me that "someone" had phoned. Obviously he never asked for a name and usually couldn't even tell me if the caller was male or female.

The same planet we lived on at the same age.
