Soon the shops will be playing Christmas songs on a loop and I have been known to leave a shop playing this one as it drives me potty- Little Drummer Boy.. Big Crosby and David Bowie - cant stand either of these singers and the song is so morbid. What's your worst Christmas song?

DaphneBroon Thu 17-Nov-16 11:09:24

Cliff Richard's Mistletoe and Wine -dreary doesn't do it justice!!

gillybob Thu 17-Nov-16 11:15:52

I'm with you there DaphneBroon Truly awful.

ALL of them ...lol.We worked as photographers in Santa's grootos in the 70's from November until Christmas eve...non stop christmas songs and carols .Its all great for the first week and goes rapidly downhill after that. We'd get in the car and blast Led Zeppelin as a cure to christmas overload

I agree Mistletoe and Wine very annoying. Also can't stand Last Christmas by Wham.
I do find they all get irritating after the first few hearings.

"Driving home for Christmas"is totally depressing with banal lyrics.
Misletoe and wine is pretty awful.
The Fairytale of New York. No one seem to really listen to the words and realise what it is about. It has a point to make but It is incredibly cynical.

Thinking about it banal lyrics are the rule of the day for a many bands statutory christmas offering. Cheap xmas pot boilers.

I still like Slade's Happy Christmas Everyone. The tune and words are irrestibly enjoyable. Even for me who does not get to enjoy much Christmas jollity.

Anniebach Thu 17-Nov-16 11:33:34

Dislike them all, with one exception - Fairytales of NewYork , the Pouges

gillybob Thu 17-Nov-16 11:34:22

I love Fairy Tale of New York Nelliemoser It is probably the only one I don't tire of hearing.

GrannyA11i Thu 17-Nov-16 11:41:04

I love Fairytale of New York too despite the cynicism in the lyrics! I actually like the Little Drummer Boy video and singing too though!

Teetime Thu 17-Nov-16 11:46:32

There is a lovely video on You Tube of Michael McIntyre doing Fairytale of New York - hilarious. I quite like it as my family all roll around pretending to sing it when they have had a few at Christmas.

kittylester Thu 17-Nov-16 13:02:46

I quite like them all but The Pogues is my favourite and I love the Michael McIntyre version.

rosesarered Thu 17-Nov-16 13:07:48

Well, I thought the worst Christmas song ever was Slade until I heard the Christmas Jeremy ( we're voting for Jeremy) song by his fans.grin

Juggernaut Thu 17-Nov-16 13:10:15

I loathe and detest Slade's 'Merry Christmas Everybody', it makes me cringe!
However, I love Roy Wood and Wizzard's 'I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day' and will happily bounce around to that at any time after mid November,
I also love Fairytale of New York, but only the Pogue's version, can't bear the sight or sound of Michael McIntyre, and he's just not funny!

DBF and I one year decided to visit as many Christmas markets as we could.
We must have been a bit flush that year !!!
So off we went during December to Aachen, Maastrict, Brugge, Ghent, Leuven, Lille, Brussels and any more we could find.
Everytime we arrived at one the first thing we heard was Mistletoe and Wine, every single market.
We decided we were being haunted.

gillybob Thu 17-Nov-16 14:13:35

Your name reminds me of another one of my very favourites Felice (Happy)

Feliz Navidad, preferably sung by Mr Buble [swoon]

Ana Thu 17-Nov-16 14:23:50

I had to google that roses - it's certainly pretty dire! shock

Heard one they say could be the top Xmas song this year...about Jeremy Corbyn!!!! The mind boggles...what's he git to do with Xmas. It truly awful!!

Ana Thu 17-Nov-16 14:44:39

That's the one roses mentioned and it's in the link I posted, nannypink! grin

gillybob Thu 17-Nov-16 14:45:20

I now have a different worst ever xmas song thanks to Ana's link.

It sounds like a combination of Down by the Old Bull and Bush and Knees up Mother Brown. Just off to boil my head in something hot and sticky....

A Corbyn isn't just for Christmas (mores the pity)he would have gone away by January.

kittylester Thu 17-Nov-16 15:01:09

I can't believe that's real!shock

grannylyn65 Thu 17-Nov-16 15:33:46

Love Fairytale of NY!

Greyduster Thu 17-Nov-16 15:34:06

I don't like any of them, I'm afraid, except 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'. As for the JC one...... I hope his embarrassment knows no bounds!

NotTooOld Thu 17-Nov-16 16:01:25

What's that one that goes 'Last Christmas I GEV you my heart.....la, la, la'? That GEV is so annoying to a pedant such as myself.
I did read that even Noddy Houlder (Holder?) detests 'Here it is, Merry Christmas......' but, of course, it is his pension so he can't hate it too much. When the horrible Christmas music started up in one of our local shops whilst I was in there two weeks ago, I remarked to one of the assistants that it must really get on her nerves. 'Oh, no', she said 'I love it all'. I slunk away with my tail between my legs. What am old misery I must have become.

NotTooOld Thu 17-Nov-16 16:02:03

an not am

callgirl1 Thu 17-Nov-16 17:45:46

I love Mistletoe and Wine, the Slade record and Roy Wood`s. What I absolutely love hearing, although it wasn`t meant as a Christmas record, is Johnny Mathis singing When a Child is Born, gets me every time.
